It’s been three years since Paul Mullin signed for Wrexham and during that time, he’s produced some unbelievable moments.

On July 23rd 2021, Wrexham captured Paul Mullin from League One outfit Cambridge United. The rest, as they say, is history.

Mullin has risen to stardom as one of the greatest players to ever pull on the Red jersey, with the 29-year-old amassing 105 goals in just three campaigns at the Racecourse Ground.

The goals he’s bagged have brought unparalleled success to Wrexham, as supporters are left thanking Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds for their ambition in the transfer window.

Three years and two promotions later from first signing for the club, we’ve decided to rank his five best moments in a Wrexham shirt.

5. Paul Mullin’s goal vs Crawley Town that Rob McElhenney loved

Mullin has scored all types of goals since arriving in Wales, from incredible solo efforts to long-range screamers and poacher-like finishes, there isn’t much the Liverpudlian can’t do.

The strikers’ goal against Crawley Town in April showcased his unbelievable work ethic, to chase down a lost cause and anticipate a mistake coming from the defender, which it invariably did.

After latching onto the loose ball, Mullin made no mistake by slotting the ball underneath the keeps grasp, while McElhenney showed his appreciation for the goal via X, claiming it was his ‘favourite goal’ scored by Wrexham.

4. Mullin’s first half hat-trick against Accrington Stanley

In the heat of a promotion battle, Wrexham needed their big players to step up and against Accrington Stanley in March, Mullin did exactly that.

The Reds were going through a rough patch in their season and were on a three-match losing run, which included a harrowing 1-0 defeat to Gillingham.

Mullin was also going through the toughest period of his Wrexham career, having failed to score in seven matches.

But it’s during the difficult times when the big players step up, and that is what the Wrexham goal machine did, smashing a first-half hat-trick past Accrington to get his side’s promotion hopes back on track.

That victory moved the Reds up to third in the table and from there, a return to League One rarely looked in doubt.

3. Scoring 100th goal in the victory vs Colchester United

In the race for promotion last term, Wrexham once more found themselves in a precarious situation.

Following their disappointing defeat to Doncaster Rovers in April, the Reds feared the worst in the next match after going 1-0 down to Colchester United.

But up stepped up Mullin, who scored his 100th goal for the club with a glancing header, getting on the end of a superb Ryan Barnett cross.

This landmark strike handed Wrexham the impetus in the contest and managed to find a winner through youngster Max Cleworth, whose goal in the dying embers sparked scenes of jubilation in the away end.

2. Mullin’s brace vs Forest Green Rovers that helped seal promotion

Wrexham’s clash against Stockport County on the final day of the League Two campaign was billed as the promotion decider however, the Reds put themselves in a position to wrap up their return to League One with two matches to spare.

Forest Green Rovers were the visitors in the middle of April, aiming to spoil the party, but Wrexham had other ideas as Elliot Lee gave the hosts the lead inside the opening 17 minutes.

Then, who else, but Mullin stepped up to score a brace to ease any tension around the Racecourse Ground and confirm their promotion back to the third tier, a division they spent 19 years away from.

Wrexham ended up winning the match 6-0 as goals from Mullin and Lee were complemented by strikes from Ryan Barnett, Jack Marriott and a Ryan Inniss own goal.

1. Mullin’s double vs Boreham Wood to seal promotion back to League Two

Wrexham had spent 15 years outside of League Two and after losing in the play-off semi-final against Grimsby Town in 2022, the Reds had another opportunity to make amends.

This time, however, it was to seal the title as Reynolds and McElhenney were in attendance for a home fixture against Boreham Wood.

The visitors threatened to rip up the script when they scored in the opening minute, but an Elliot Lee equaliser after 15 minutes settled the nerves of the sell-out Racecourse Ground.

Wrexham then turned on the style after the break with Mullin scoring twice, his second goal in the 71st minute kick-starting the promotion party.

Mullin’s first was an absolute beauty to put his side in front, as he spun the defender, cut inside and curled the ball superbly into the top corner.

It’s a goal that will live long in the memory of all Wrexham fans as it clinched their return to the Football League.
