Wrexham continue their promotion charge tonight when they travel to the Eco-Power Stadium to take on Doncaster Rovers.

Wrexham claimed a huge victory on Friday afternoon by beating promotion rivals Mansfield Town at the STōK Cae Ras.

A Paul Mullin brace, taking him to 99 Wrexham goals, secured an enormous three points in the promotion race.

As results went their way with Notts County drawing 3-3 against MK Dons, Phil Parkinson’s men can pull five points clear of fourth place while boasting a game in hand, although that won’t be easy.

Doncaster Rovers have won their last four matches in League Two and can pose a threat with Hakeeb Adelakun on the wing.

Luckily, Wrexham have several threats of their own, including striker Steven Fletcher.

Phil Parkinson should unleash Steven Fletcher v Doncaster

Ollie Palmer‘s record when partnered with Paul Mullin is amazing.

Having gone unbeaten in every single match he’s started this season, it’s no secret that Wrexham play better with Palmer in the side.

The 32-year-old offers willing runs into the channels, pressing from the front and creating space for his deadly strike partner to score.

However, with a congested fixture schedule, Parkinson may choose to rotate Palmer for Fletcher tonight.

Fletcher boasts the best minute-per-goal average in the entire division, scoring a goal every 121 minutes this term, beating the likes of Jake Young (132), Max Dean (139) and even teammate Mullin (140).

He’s also risen to cult hero status since arriving in Wales, with Parkinson lauding him as “absolute class” for the moments of quality he can produce, such as the acrobatic effort to beat Notts County in February and the hat-trick against Barrow in January.

Of course, Palmer doesn’t deserve to get dropped on the balance of play, but their record-signing could do with his minutes being managed across the final six matches, especially after playing just four days ago.

Steven Fletcher’s goal record

Fletcher’s quality is underlined by the levels he’s played at in English football, scoring 101 goals in 385 games across the top two tiers, 53 of which came during his days as a Premier League striker.

The 37-year-old has proven that you never lose the knack of scoring goals as a striker, with his eight strikes this term coming across nine starts in the league and 18 substitute appearances.

As demonstrated by his minutes to goal record, Fletcher is proficient in the box and uses his aerial prowess to outleap defenders and first touch to bring his teammates into play.

It’s those attributes that Parkinson could use against Doncaster, with the former Scotland international looking to add to his goal tally tonight.
