The Wrexham squad still has room for improvement despite summer arrivals at the Racecourse.

Five new faces have arrived at Wrexham this summer with Arthur Okonkwo, Lewis Brunt, George Dobson, Callum Burton and Sebastian Revan joining the club.

The Hollywood owners Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney are keen to support Phil Parkinson in the market and continue strengthening their side ahead of the League One campaign.

The new arrivals have boosted the defence and midfield of Parkinson’s side.

Okonkwo solved the former Sunderland’s main priority of a number-one goalkeeper, while Brunt’s arrival helped to reinforce the backline after the summer departures of Ben Tozer and Aaron Hayden.

However, despite numerous arrivals, the Red Dragons could still look to improve their attacking options in the remainder of this transfer window.

Current Wrexham striking options under Phil Parkinson

The former Bradford City coach has several striking options at the club.

Key man Paul Mullin, Ollie Palmer, Steven Fletcher, Jack Marriott, and Sam Dalby all provide competition for the starting XI.

Mullin is a consistent goal threat for the Red Dragons with the former Cambridge United striker scoring 24 League Two goals last campaign.

The other striking options weren’t able to reach those heights.

Fletcher was able to score eight league goals with Palmer scoring seven. Whereas Dalby and Marriott were only able to find the net on one occasion each in League Two.

The Wrexham talisman is set to miss the start of the season through injury and with other strikers not scoring as many goals, the club could look at the market to upgrade their goal-threat.

Why Wrexham should look to upgrade striking options in League One

With the Red Dragons set for their first League One campaign in 19 years, the level of quality is expected to be much higher.

Clubs like Birmingham City, Huddersfield Town and Bolton Wanderers are all expected to be pushing for promotion.

If Wrexham wants to compete at the top it will take a squad full of quality. Parkinson has moved towards that strategy this window with several new arrivals.

However, the club must consider signing a striker to help support Mullin.

Apart from Mullin no other striker was able to reach double figures in the League with attacking midfielder Elliot Lee being a vital part of the goal threat with 16 goals.

If the club can add extra firepower upfront with a player who has experience playing League One, they will be able to ease the transition into a higher division.

Upgrading a squad option may seem harsh, but it is the reality of League One football, Parkinson will need all of his strikers firing, and may yet turn to the transfer market to strengthen his attack.
