Wrexham will be pleased with their start to the summer window but will face setbacks amongst their transfer plans.

Phil Parkinson is keen to add to his Wrexham squad following the capture of Ryan Hardie but is facing competition from Championship rivals for a number of targets.

Harry Darling snubbed Wrexham in favour of a move to Norwich City, whilst the Red Dragons also face competition in the race to snap up Craig Dawson on a free transfer.

Tommy Doyle struggled at Wolves last season

Wrexham were in talks with Doyle over a move to the Racecourse Ground but it is believed that the midfielder is set to snub the Red Dragons in favour of Birmingham.

Doyle’s physicality was questioned by his current manager Vitor Pereira and the rigours of the second tier may be too much for the player to handle, especially in Parkinson’s system.

Another aspect for Wrexham to consider is Doyle’s poor form during the 2024-25 campaign where he contributed just one goal and assist from his midfield role.

Creativity and goals from midfield are something that Parkinson is keen to add this summer and with a record like that, Doyle will be a name that the club will swiftly move on from without worry.

How Wrexham’s other midfield targets have fared last season

Wrexham have been linked with a number of midfield targets and the feeling is that the club would like to add more than one to their squad this summer.

Lewis Travis is of interest to Wrexham as well as Ryan Teague from Melbourne Victory as Parkinson looks to add fresh legs to his options.

In terms of creativity, Wrexham have interest in Charlie Savage and Tom Lawrence in a bid to add that threat from a deeper position.

Sam Smith is one player that will be keeping a keen eye on the club’s transfer activity as he prepares for his own personal revenge mission on the Championship next season.
