Phil Parkinson is working hard in the transfer window to sign some quality players, although there is one player who could be offloaded.

Wrexham supporters are feeling the excitement ahead of their first League One campaign in 19 years.

On Saturday, talented goalkeeper Arthur Okonkwo was announced as a permanent signing at the Racecourse Ground as he sealed a three-year contract.

The 22-year-old kick-started their transfer business with a bang and more incomings will be expected in the coming weeks.

Phil Parkinson’s men also discovered their 2024/25 fixture list on Wednesday morning, starting their campaign with a home clash against Wycombe Wanderers.

Parkinson will want most of his transfer business done ahead of that fixture, including those leaving North Wales.

Which Wrexham players could Phil Parkinson offload?

Wrexham currently have a squad list of 21 senior players confirmed ahead of the 2024/25 campaign.

With the EFL allowing 22 players to be registered in the squad, Parkinson has a task on his hands to offload some of his fringe talents.

In terms of his defence, Anthony Forde could join the likes of Ben Tozer, Aaron Hayden and Jordan Tunnicliffe in being offloaded this summer. The Irish right wing-back sees his contract expire in 2025 and will find it difficult to dislodge Luke Bolton and Ryan Barnett.

It’s predominantly in attack where Parkinson has his troubles, needing to sell or loan out some of his seven current strikers, including Jake Bickerstaff, Sam Dalby and Billy Waters.

Wrexham need a proven League One forward to play alongside Paul Mullin, with Steven Fletcher and Ollie Palmer nearing the end of their careers.

Surprisingly, such is the size of Parkinson’s roster, James Jones is another player Wrexham could sell this summer.

Wrexham should offload James Jones this summer

The strongest part of the Reds squad is the midfield. It’s stacked with quality options such as George Evans, Andy Cannon, Elliot Lee, James McClean and Tom O’Connor.

Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney are also looking to bolster that quintet by plotting ambitious moves for Joe Morrell and Brighton youngster Marc Leonard, who is currently wanted by the Vancouver Whitecaps.

Sadly, the breadth of options at their disposal leaves James Jones wondering where his future lies.

Dubbed “excellent” by Parkinson, Jones arrived in the same summer as the likes of Paul Mullin and has played a vital role in their rise towards League One, appearing 120 times for Wrexham with 14 goals from midfield.

The 28-year-old suffered an injury-hit 2023/24 campaign but still played 16 times in the league while scoring four goals, all of whom came between August and December.

Given Wrexham are now making the step up to the third tier, Jones will want to play regular football but that isn’t guaranteed in Wales.

An array of talented options will see the Scotsman’s game time restricted and with his contract expiring in 2025, Parkinson could create an extra space in his squad by offloading Jones.
