Wrexham will be looking to make it four wins in a row in all competitions as they travel to face Northampton Town.

Wrexham will be looking to build on their last League One victory over Crawley Town having had two wins in the EFL Trophy sandwiched in between their league duties.

Phil Parkinson plans to use his whole squad as he bids for league and cup success but will be wary of the threat posed by Kevin Nolan’s Northampton, who recently beat promotion rivals Huddersfield Town.

Arthur Okonkwo staked his claim to be number one goalkeeper with two fine performances in the EFL Trophy but Parkinson will have something else on his mind heading into the must-win clash.

Phil Parkinson will be hoping for Sam Smith and Jay Rodriguez to score for Wrexham

Michael Williamson has explained Wrexham’s transfer strategy and by delivering Sam Smith and Jay Rodriguez to the club in January, it certainly has improved chances of promotion.

The new duo started the last league game against Crawley and made an immediate impact with Wrexham scoring inside two minutes in the match.

Parkinson will now be hoping his new strike force can get off the mark for their new club and ease any pressure that has come with their marquee arrivals.

Smith recently won League One goal of the month for January but the moment was in a Reading shirt where he has already notched 11 times this season.

As for Rodriguez, he has struggled to find the back of the net this season with just two goals in all competitions and the Wrexham boss will be hoping both can get their careers in North Wales up and running against Northampton.

Smith and Rodriguez have the attributes to be an effective partnership

If Parkinson continues to persevere with the partnership of Smith and Rodriguez, the new signings compliment each other with their playing style and strengths.

Smith is a willing runner off the ball and will often stretch defences by making penetrative runs in behind, as well as having an eye for goal with all types of finishes.

Rodriguez is more of a traditional centre forward, good in the air, a physical presence and has bundles of experience and craft. The two should combine to great effect for the Red Dragons.

Parkinson also has a plethora of options from the bench with Jack Marriott and Steven Fletcher waiting in the wings alongside Paul Mullin if he can overcome a shin injury.
