It’s going to be an intriguing season for both Wrexham and Birmingham City in 2025/26 after a very busy summer, but there is one potential pitfall they’ll have to avoid.
Birmingham City may have walked the League One title last season, but Wrexham followed them in second place and have taken great strides over the summer to improve their squad.
While many have doubted Phil Parkinson and his team over the last four years, they continue to surpass all expectations with back-to-back-to-back promotions.
The doubters have claimed they can’t do it again this season, and they may be right. But one thing’s for sure, Wrexham are giving it a good go when it comes to finding new players in the transfer market.

Wrexham are following Birmingham’s example by recruiting en masse
So far this summer, Birmingham have added ten new players to their squad. They’ve been praised for their ambition, too, and are widely tipped to be among the promotion contenders in the Championship this term.
Meanwhile, Wrexham have seven new signings, and there’s still Kieffer Moore to arrive and a potential deal for Nathan Broadhead on the table.
Again, neutrals are starting to recognise the impressive work Wrexham have done in the transfer market and any predictions of the Red Dragons being in a relegation battle now look unfounded.
However, both of these promoted clubs will run the risk of enduring a bumpy start to the season given the sheer volume of new players coming into the team. It’s never easy to bed in one new player, never mind several; challenges Parkinson and his Blues counterpart will now need to overcome.

Phil Parkinson will need to get all his new players settled in and gelling together
Handling an influx of new players is nothing particularly new for Parkinson, of course. Across the 2024/25 campaign, Wrexham brought in 15 new faces, with 12 of them arriving in the summer.
Admittedly, of those, the likes of Josh Adam, Mo Faal, and Jon Dadi Bodvarsson were fringe players at best. Meanwhile, all of Wrexham’s new signings this summer are genuine contenders to make an impact in the starting XI.
There are some big personalities, like Josh Windass and Kieffer Moore, coming into an already well-established team dynamic, too. Obviously, they’ll be keen to pull in the same direction as the rest of the squad, but it’s natural for this level of upheaval to have teething problems.
We firmly expect Wrexham to have a successful season. Success, however, can mean a wide range of things, with a midtable finish in the Championship still set to be an incredible achievement for the Red Dragons.
Signing so many players, regardless of quality, doesn’t always guarantee success of the highest order. Wrexham fans will need to be patient and perhaps temper their expectations ahead of the new campaign.
Getting the new players to settle in quickly and effectively will be absolutely key to how the 2025/26 season plays out for Wrexham.
