Wrexham must pounce on Cardiff City mistake, Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney can take their best player for free

Wrexham should be all over the signing of one recently departed Cardiff City man with nearly 400 Championship appearances.

Wrexham have made their first signing of the summer as they look to build a top side ahead of the 2025/26 Championship campaign.

Ryan Hardie is the first arrival for Wrexham, a striker with vast talent and experience in the Championship, and one who boasts plenty of excitement, having bagged 10 goals in the second tier last season.

Following on from Hardie, it is clear that Phil Parkinson holds a midfield addition high on his priority list; Wrexham have been linked with both Tom Cairney and Tom Lawrence already this summer, whilst there has also been interest in Barry Bannan from Sheffield Wednesday.

Following on with the theme of Wrexham targeting Championship-experienced free midfielders, it would be no surprise to see one former Cardiff City man at some point on this list.

Wrexham should sign Cardiff City legend Joe Ralls

Following the filter of vastly experienced Championship midfielders who would likely be willing to relocate to North Wales, one man who Phil Parkinson could certainly persuade to join is Cardiff City legend Joe Ralls.

Ralls, 31, has recently been let go by Cardiff City with his contract expiring this summer, a decision that left fans of the now League One club unhappy. The midfielder has managed to accumulate 393 Championship appearances, on top of 28 in the Premier League, and now will move on from the Bluebirds due to his likely ambition of staying in the Championship.

Wrexham going in for Ralls is a move that makes so much sense, whether it is the Dragons’ need for an experienced head in the centre of the park, or Ralls’ desire to stay in the Championship, and even more so, find himself staying in Wales.

Aaron Ramsey gives Wrexham the stamp of approval on Joe Ralls quality

If any assurance was needed to suggest whether Joe Ralls would be of a high enough quality for Wrexham, if they were to pursue a deal for the 31-year-old, there is no better person to take it from than Welsh legend Aaron Ramsey, also formerly of Cardiff City.

When Ralls posted the announcement that he would be departing Cardiff City this summer, 86-capped Welshman Ramsey simply responded with ‘legend’.

Based on the type of player Wrexham need ahead of the new season, Ralls fits the bill. Competition for places would be vital next campaign, and what better way to start than nicking Cardiff legend and captain Ralls from your rivals.
