Competition for a place in the Wrexham starting XI is high heading into the 2024/25 League One campaign.

The level of quality in League One is expected to be much higher, with Wrexham keen to continue improving the squad.

The Hollywood owners Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney have already brought in several new faces at the Racecourse.

The club have secured the signings of Arthur Okonkwo, George Dobson, Lewis Brunt, Callum Burton, and former Aston Villa academy star Sebastian Revan.

New additions may still arrive in North Wales, leaving squad players fighting for their minutes under Phil Parkinson.

With the Wrex-Coast Tour set to kick off, several fringe players will be looking to hit the ground running in a make-or-break season for their futures at the club.

Wrexham star Sam Dalby needs to impress in make-or-break season

Wrexham are continuing to add strength-in-depth to their squad with an attacking signing not ruled out.

Sam Dalby has struggled for a consistent starting place sharing minutes with Wrexham talisman Paul Mullin, Ollie Palmer, Steven Fletcher, and Jack Marriott.

Dalby will be hoping he can use the pre-season tour to enhance his place in Parkinson’s plans.

Dalby may well not be the quality to start every League One campaign but if he can improve his goal tally at 24 years old he provides a younger option in the striking department.

Last season the former Southend United striker only managed to find a single goal in 31 League Two appearances.

If the English forward wants to remain at the Racecourse, he will know he will have to improve his goal-scoring form in the coming season.

Sam Dalby set to compete with Wrexham star Jack Marriott

Last season the former Sunderland manager preferred to partner Mullin with club record signing Palmer. With the veteran striker Fletcher rotating with the latter off the bench.

The former Premier League striker would often be the man Parkinson would turn to add firepower up-front.

In January, Dalby’s chances of minutes got more challenging with the signing of former Deby County striker Jack Marriott.

Marriott’s commitment to the press and aggressive off-the-ball movement impressed. However, he struggled to find goal-scoring form and only scored one goal for the Red Dragons.

With Marriott only recently signing, the 56-year-old coach will likely give him time to prove his worth. If Dalby wants to extend his stay in North Wales, he must impress the manager in the coming season and prove he has what it takes to be a strong rotational option when called upon.
