Wrexham and Cardiff City won’t get to meet in the Championship this season, after the Bluebirds suffered relegation to League One last time round.

The last time Cardiff City and Wrexham met was back in 2002. And their next meeting will have to wait until the pair are in the same division after Wrexham won promotion from League One last season.

Ryan Reynolds and Rob Mac’s side have achieved three straight promotions in an English football first and now they’re looking towards the Premier League.

Reynolds thinks Wrexham can reach the Premier League inside 10 years. Meanwhile, Cardiff will desperately try to return to the Championship as soon as possible.

But the Bluebirds have enjoyed a good recent history having spent time in the Premier League and having been relatively comfortable in the Championship until the last few years.

Kieffer Moore ‘loved’ his time at Cardiff City

One player who’s played for both Cardiff City and Wrexham is Kieffer Moore. This summer, Wrexham signed Moore from Sheffield United in a £2million deal and he hit the ground running for Phil Parkinson’s side. The 33-year-old already has four goals in nine Championship games this season, and six for club and country in 2025/26.

Last December, Moore returned to former club Cardiff City as a Sheffield United player. He scored twice in a 2-0 win at the Cardiff City Stadium and took a lot of abuse from the Bluebirds fans that day.

But the Wrexham hero told Wales Online after the game: “I had a great time here and I loved playing here, I scored a lot of goals here. I suppose it’s never nice for the home fans when I come back here and still score but I loved my time here.”

Five other players who played for Cardiff City and Wrexham

Moore isn’t the only one to have represented both Welsh clubs. In fact, there have been five others with perhaps the most notable of which being Mark Harris.

Now at Oxford United and a Welsh international, Harris spent time on loan at Wrexham during the 2019/20 season but failed to make an impact.

The other four include Gavin Ward and Jeff Whitley, and perhaps the lesser known Jazzi Barnum-Bobb and Jonathan Brown.

Whilst the Dragons won’t face Cardiff this season, they will face Swansea City, and Snoop Dogg is set to attend Wrexham against Swansea in December this year.
