Wrexham are days away from all the planning and preparation becoming a reality as they face Southampton in their Championship season opener.
The fixture at St Mary’s will be a far cry from the National League opposition the club faced when Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney first took charge of the club in 2021.
Former manager Dean Keates was in charge for the first few months of the new ownership before the club decided to part ways. Phil Parkinson initially turned Wrexham down before taking the job in the summer of 2021.
Humphrey Ker was thrust into a position as executive director at the club during the initial stages of the takeover and revealed a hard truth upon first meeting the Wrexham squad.

Humphrey Ker revealed he was not qualified for Wrexham job to the players
As shown on ‘Welcome to Wrexham’ season one episode two, Ker revealed to the Wrexham players that he was not qualified to be taking on the role of executive director at the club.
Ker worked with McElhenney as a writer for his TV shows in the US and was trusted to oversee the club’s operations given the owners other commitments.
Upon his introduction to the squad under Keates, Ker stated: “Hi everybody my name is Humphrey Ker and I am going to be working with you guys.

“Basically my role is to be Rob and Ryan’s representative, I’ve worked for Rob for a couple of years now as a writer on one of his TV shows, so I’m not going to lie to you that is my principal qualification for becoming involved with the club.
“But my role isn’t going to have anything to do with what goes on on the field I’m not the CEO, I’m not the director of football. I’m nothing like that, I’m just basically here to represent their interests and the club’s interests going the other way.”
Ker was joined by Shaun Harvey in ensuring the smooth transition period into the Reynolds and McElhenney ownership and both are still with the club.
Harvey is now a director at the Racecourse Ground, whereas Ker has taken a slight step back in becoming Wrexham’s community director.
Their impact on the club should not be underestimated as they have been just as important in the progression as the high-profile owners.
Humphrey Ker has high hopes for Wrexham in the Championship
Speaking back in May, Ker believes that Wrexham are not just in the Championship to make up the numbers next season.
Ker is not limiting his expectations for Wrexham next season but revealed that a mid table finish would be something to be proud of at the club.
He explained: “I banged the drum for quite a long time for, ‘look 12th place is fine, if we get 12th place we should all be very proud of ourselves’.
“And fortunately Phil [Parkinson] and Arthur [Okonkwo] and the rest of the lads are not so interested in that kind of nonsense, so this year I’m not going to say that.
“I’m going to say we’re going to give it our best, shoot our shot and all that kind of thing, and see where we wind up come the end of the season. But yeah, I have faith.”
