Wrexham expectations don’t look set to be lowered going into the next 2025/26 season, following the club’s promotion to the Championship.
It’d be foolish to write Wrexham off next season. Three-straight promotions proves that the club can keep on defying expectations and by now, there’s no knowing just how far the club can go under owners Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney, and manager Phil Parkinson.
Many expected them to stall in League One last season but in the end, Wrexham finished in 2nd place with a five-point cushion over Stockport County who ended up in 3rd. Whilst the Championship will be their toughest campaign yet, there’s every reason that the Dragons can go on to challenge once more.
A huge summer is needed, though. It’s been reported that Wrexham have a £25million transfer budget for this summer and so it looks like the club is going to really go for it, with some exciting players linked with Wrexham so far this summer too.

Humphrey Ker has faith that Wrexham can be successful in the Championship
Speaking in a recent interview with Amanpour and Company, Wrexham’s community director Humphrey Ker and goalkeeper Arthur Okonkwo spoke about all things Wrexham. And Ker also spoke about his expectations for the 2025/26 season and what he was saying about the club’s fortunes going into the 2024/25 season just gone.
Ker explained how he said a 12th place finish in 2024/25 would’ve been a great achievement. Laughed off by Parkinson and co, Ker isn’t going to limit his expectations for the Dragons this time round. He explained: “I banged the drum for quite a long time for, ‘look 12th place is fine, if we get 12th place we should all be very proud of ourselves’.
“And fortunately Phil and Arthur and the rest of the lads are not so interested in that kind of nonsense, so this year I’m not going to say that. I’m going to say we’re going to give it our best, shoot our shot and all that kind of thing, and see where we wind up come the end of the season. But yeah, I have faith.”
What Ryan Reynolds has said about Wrexham in the Championship next season
Once again, few know what to expect from Wrexham this season. But after three promotions in a row, nobody will be surprised to see Wrexham up there again next time round.
But everyone knows it’ll be another huge step up in quality. Speaking recently, Reynolds gave his verdict on the 2025/26 Championship season, saying: “We’re heading into this other league that has a whole history in and of itself and is hard, and we are going to go up and down and all around. It’s going to be a roller coaster. You’re doing a Wrexham, that’s what we all say now.”
Whatever happens, it’ll certainly be a great watch for fans and if Wrexham do go on to be successful then it’ll be another great spectacle for both the club and for football, with Wrexham gaining more and more fans all of the time.
Ker has learned the hard way that it’s foolish to write off Wrexham.
