Wrexham owner Ryan Reynolds was immediately gripped by the club after his first year, having spoken about one thing that surprised him the most.

Ryan Reynolds and Rob Mac’s takeover of Wrexham has significantly bolstered the club, both on-and-off the pitch.

Since the Wrexham takeover in 2021, the club has risen from the National League to the Championship, with three successive promotions under Red Dragons boss Phil Parkinson.

However, things did not get off to the easiest of starts for Rob and Ryan, with Wrexham falling short in the National League play-offs in their first season.

While it was a learning curve for the club, it also helped the Hollywood pair fall deeper in love with the club and their project.

After one year, Reynolds was taken aback by his role at the club, having noted one thing in particular that surprised him.

Ryan Reynolds was surprised by the Wrexham ‘community’ and the importance of it

Both Ryan Reynolds and Rob Mac fully embraced the Wrexham challenge, even when it was difficult in the first season, not just because of the football, but the fanbase and community connected to it.

The Wrexham owners have always prioritised the diehard fans with their decisions, whether it was to keep the historic Racecourse Ground and improve it, or the promotion of local businesses by Rob and Ryan.

This all boils down to the one thing that surprised Ryan the most after taking on his role at Wrexham.

“Coming into it, I thought I’d be more sort of riveted by the players in their journey,” said Reynolds back in 2022. “But it’s really been about the people and this community and the people that have been coming to these matches since they were babies.”

Welcome to Wrexham helped transform the town and the community

The one brilliant thing that Ryan Reynolds and Rob Mac were able to prioritise during the filming of Welcome to Wrexham was the exposure they gave to the town and the community.

Not only were Rob and Ryan able to drag the football club from the mire and reinstate Wrexham to their former glory, but they also played a crucial role in breathing life back into the town.

The town of Wrexham has turned into a tourist destination, and not just for the club, but The Turf and other local businesses, which have boomed because of Rob and Ryan.

Wrexham folk will always be in debt to the Hollywood pair, who have given them a massive helping hand in recent years.
