Wrexham left it late to complete Phil Parkinson’s summer business, signing defender Dominic Hyam from Blackburn Rovers.
Three new signings arrived at Wrexham on deadline day as Phil Parkinson ended the window with 13 summer signings.
Wrexham’s final signing of the window came late on deadline day, as Dominic Hyam completed his move from Blackburn Rovers.
Blackburn were left stunned by Wrexham’s move for Hyam, believing that they had set an asking price high enough to deter Parkinson.
Wrexham forced through a £2.7million deal, and Hyam’s exit has been branded ‘the biggest of blows’ for Rovers.

Wrexham’s Dominic Hyam is one of the very best in the Championship in one area
Hyam could make his Wrexham debut against Queens Park Rangers this weekend, although forcing his way into the back line will not be easy.
Max Cleworth, Conor Coady and Callum Doyle kept a clean sheet in Wrexham’s 2-0 win at Millwall.
Those defenders will expect to keep their places, but Hyam is a proven Championship defender who will knock on the door for first-team action.
In fact, WhoScored’s data shows that Hyam sits joint-second in the Championship for clearances this season.
Hyam has racked up 36 clearances in just four games, proving to be something of a defensive wall for Blackburn.
Hyam is tied with Sheffield Wednesday’s Dominic Iorfa and Portsmouth’s Conor Shaughnessy on 36 clearances, and just one behind Bristol City’s Rob Atkinson and Oxford United’s Michal Helik on 37.
Wrexham’s Cleworth is only one clearance behind Hyam with 35, and the pair could now play together at Wrexham.
Parkinson certainly values strong defending and will look towards both Hyam and Cleworth to make sure the ball is far away from the Wrexham goal.
| Player | Clearances in 2025-26 Championship season |
| Michal Helik | 37 |
| Rob Atkinson | 37 |
| Dominic Hyam | 36 |
| Dominic Iorfa | 36 |
| Conor Shaughnessy | 36 |
| Max Cleworth | 35 |
Dominic Hyam looking to retain Championship crown
Hyam’s clearance numbers are not just a sign of strong form to start the season.
If you look back to last season, WhoScored tracked that Hyam had racked up a whopping 343 clearances – the most in the Championship.
Mark McGuinness of Luton Town finished in second place with 272 clearances, some 71 short of Hyam.
This era of football has been dominated by playing out from the back, but there is still plenty of value in a defender like Hyam, who sees the ball and clears the ball away.
Hyam will look to retain his crown as the top clearance-maker in the Championship this season, but will have to force his way into the Wrexham side first.
