Wrexham will be using the international break to recharge and build some team cohesion ahead of their next Championship fixture at home to QPR.

After a summer of heavy spending from owners Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney, the Wrexham squad now has thirteen new faces to integrate.

Players such as Ryan Hardie who were signed at the beginning of the window are now well and truly embedded into life at Wrexham, however Ben Sheaf and Issa Kabore have some catching up to do after joining on deadline day.

Nearly £40m spent has given Phil Parkinson a real chance at making the Red Dragons competitive in the Championship, however, Shaun Harvey once revealed to the manager why the owners were perhaps the club’s ‘biggest problem.’

Shaun Harvey once explained how Wrexham’s owners made it harder to sign players in the National League

Speaking on season one episode eleven of the ‘Welcome to Wrexham’ documentary series, Harvey explained to Parkinson how the status of Wrexham’s owners made it harder for the club to sign players.

During the 2021-22 season, Wrexham needed to add to their squad in the January transfer window to boost their chances of promotion, however, found it challenging given their famous owners.

Harvey stated to Parkinson: “Rob and Ryan are great for the club and the financial support we get is great, but they’re also our biggest problem.

“They create a level of expectancy and financial ability that other people believe we have.”

The Wrexham manager was in agreement with Harvey and also discussed the challenge of signing players good enough to get Wrexham the progress they craved.

Parkinson explained: “You’ve always got to go for those at the top end of what you can attract. I just feel with the striker Shaun, it’s a key position and I feel like if we get that number nine in, the others will fall into place.”

The Red Dragons did eventually get that desired striker in the form of Ollie Palmer. The rest as they say, is now history.

Ryan Reynolds and Rob Mac are now attractions for Wrexham transfers

This summer was somewhat of a full circle moment for the club in terms of the owners’ influence on transfer business.

They were a hindrance in the National League as clubs were asking for inflated fees and players for inflated wages.

However, this summer it is understood the duo played a significant role in persuading a number of players to join Wrexham, including Lewis O’Brien and Conor Coady.

Players are now jumping on the Wrexham bandwagon after watching the documentary and seeing the spirit and potential at the Racecourse Ground.
