Wrexham are heading towards a crucial January transfer window as Phil Parkinson looks to add quality to his squad for the second half of the season and beyond.

We are now into the final week of 2024 and the attention will certainly start turning towards the January transfer window.

Wrexham still have two games to play before 2025 begins as Blackpool and Wigan Athletic venture to the STōK Cae Ras.

Phil Parkinson will look to end the year on a high, especially after frustrating draws against Cambridge United and Bristol Rovers.

Wrexham were leading both games heading into the final 10 minutes but ended up only taking a point.

Parkinson may now want more attacking firepower to close out these wins and one big name has been linked for January.

BBC pundit on Patrick Bamford future

Wrexham want a striker with Championship experience according to one report with Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds ready to splash the cash.

Well they may have to dig deep for one target with Wrexham allegedly keen on signing Patrick Bamford from Leeds United.

Bamford’s wages would surely shatter the Wrexham pay structure and securing his signature certainly won’t be easy.

Bamford is yet to start a Championship game this season though, playing just 102 minutes across eight substitute appearances.

A January move can’t be ruled out and former Leeds defender Leigh Bromby has now offered his verdict.

Bromby has told BBC Radio Leeds that he thinks Bamford’s situation is a ‘difficult’ one as he just isn’t in Farke’s plans right now but he still has so much quality.

Bromby feels that Bamford may well want to leave Leeds because he will want playing time away from Elland Road.

The former defender and now pundit added that he thinks Leeds boss Daniel Farke will have already discussed Bamford’s future with the striker.

Bromby noted that Bamford may have agreed to a reduced role and would love to keep him around at Elland Road rather than see him leave in January.

“Unless there’s an injury, I don’t think you’ll see Bamford. It’s similar to Liam [Cooper] last year, it was like… on occasions he’d come on when the game needed it, but only in those specific moments and I think it’s exactly the same situation. I don’t think he’s even a consideration or a conversation at the minute.

“The difficulty with that is that they will be going through all the scenarios. Do you keep a Patrick Bamford because if one of the others gets injured, or do you bring somebody else in? That’s a risk.

“They know him, they know his personality, they know what he’s like in the group. Will the player want to leave? I would have thought he’d want minutes, or do you want to be part of a promotion team, is he going to get some minutes? it’s a difficult one.

“You’d have thought that Daniel, at the beginning of the season, would have spoken to him about his role and what that was going to look like because he’s just not featured at all.

“You don’t hear anything publicly about Patrick in terms of wanting to leave, so he might have agreed that at the beginning of the season, but I think if I was the manager, you’d want someone like him,” he added.

Wrexham linked with other forwards

Bamford is not the only striker believed to be on Wrexham’s radar; in fact, he isn’t even the only Leeds forward on Phil Parkinson’s wish list.

Wrexham also fancy Joe Gelhardt, a younger and more versatile attacker who is also down the pecking order at Elland Road.

Jamie Carragher is a huge fan of Gelhardt but winning the race for his signature will not be easy.

Wrexham are also keen on Harry Cornick with the Bristol City striker expected to leave in January.

Charlton Athletic are in the race too but Wrexham have options in mind and won’t just be focusing on Bamford as January approaches.
