Wrexham are chasing new signings but one of Phil Parkinson’s transfer targets looks set for a move elsewhere in League One.

Wrexham have made just the one signing so far this summer but it was something of a dream addition for supporters.

Goalkeeper Arthur Okonkwo has returned to the club on a permanent basis, penning a three-year at the STōK Cae Ras.

Okonkwo walked away from Arsenal to make the move to Wrexham, representing a perfect signing to start the summer.

More additions are needed though and a few rumoured targets have been ruled out of late.

Striker Josh Magennis has joined Exeter City, Marvin Ekpiteta has completed a move to Hibernian and Jason Kerr chose to stay with Wigan Athletic.

Wrexham set to miss out on Marc Leonard

It’s unclear just how strongly Wrexham pursued some of those names, but they were believed to be on the radar.

Another target now appears to be heading elsewhere with Marc Leonard looking set for a move.

Reports in May suggested that Wrexham were keen to sign Brighton and Hove Albion talent Leonard.

The Scot impressed in two seasons on loan at Northampton Town and now seems ready to leave the Seagulls permanently.

Wrexham are understandably interested, viewing Leonard as a midfielder who can shine immediately in League One and potentially develop into a star.

However, The Mirror’s David Anderson reports that Birmingham City are now closing in on the signing of Leonard.

It’s suggested that Birmingham will pay around £450,000 to sign Leonard as they prepare for life in League One.

The Blues will be gunning for promotion back to the Championship and clearly believe that Leonard can help them achieve that goal.

Another Birmingham transfer battle on the horizon

There will be plenty of interest in Birmingham and Wrexham this season.

Whilst Wrexham boast Hollywood owners in Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds, Birmingham can count NFL legend Tom Brady as one of their shareholders.

There has already been bizarre suggestions of Birmingham wanting to move a League One clash with Wrexham to the United States.

That won’t be happening but Birmingham appear to have beaten Wrexham to Leonard – and the two sides will battle over another transfer soon.

Reports suggest that Wrexham have joined Birmingham in the race to sign Hull City’s Ryan Longman.

Longman spent last season on loan at Millwall and now finds himself in demand with Wrexham no doubt hoping to win this race with Leonard looking set to slip through the net.
