Luke Bolton misses out on potential Wrexham exit as transfer has ‘collapsed’

Wrexham fans are hoping for at least one more signing before the transfer window slams shut but one player has been left in limbo.

This has been a superb summer for Wrexham with quality signings added across the pitch.

Arthur Okonkwo was the headline addition early in the summer as he completed a permanent move to Wrexham.

Wrexham also beat Peterborough United to Lewis Brunt, securing the defender after a strong loan spell at Mansfield Town.

Callum Burton, Dan Scarr, Sebastian Revan, George Dobson and Ollie Rathbone make up the rest of Wrexham’s summer business this summer.

That is a fine window with Wrexham adding some League One know-how alongside players who can develop into stars down the line.

Wrexham ace misses out on transfer

Wrexham may still have one more arrival in the pipeline with West Bromwich Albion striker Modou Fall heavily linked.

Phil Parkinson may ideally want to move some players on too with the likes of Billy Waters and Jake Bickerstaff unlikely to play major minutes.

One Wrexham player now appears to have missed out on a move away with a transfer collapsing ahead of the transfer deadline.

That is according to reporter Nathan Salt, who shared a scoop on the excellent RobRyanRed podcast, admitting that Luke Bolton had been poised to head out of Wrexham.

A deal was ‘lined up’ for Bolton to leave Wrexham but the move has now ‘collapsed’, meaning Bolton looks set to stay put

“There’s been a lot of chatter about one potential outgoing that I don’t think, in the last couple of weeks Rich, we’ve really been across or really sort of given much credence to, which was Luke Bolton potentially leaving the club,” said Salt.

“My understanding on that one is that a deal was lined up for Bolton to depart but that deal has now collapsed. These things are fluid, I’m giving it you as I’m led to understand it and led to believe, but as things stand, unless another offer comes in for him, he will be staying at Wrexham.

“He’s training with Wrexham as normal, as you would expect that any professional would, but yeah a move was lined up for Luke Bolton,” he added.

Bolton is no stranger to a deadline day move having only joined Wrexham from Salford City on the final day of the January transfer window.

Whether that deal can be resurrected – or a new suitor emerges – remains to be seen but Bolton looks set to stay at the STōK Cae Ras for now at least.

Luke Bolton facing tricky season

Bolton arrived as valuable competition for Ryan Barnett in the right wing back spot with Parkinson hailing him as a ‘dynamic’ player.

The former Manchester City talent has now turned out 18 times for Wrexham, recording just the one assist in the process.

Bolton is quick and tricky going forward but simply hasn’t been able to force his way into the Wrexham side on a regular basis.

Having not even been in the matchday squad for a league game this season, it seems clear that Bolton isn’t earmarked for a big role this season.

Parkinson even went with the left-footed Sebastian Revan at right wing back against Bolton Wanderers, suggesting that Bolton may even be third choice at right wing back.

Bolton may now find himself on the outside looking in at Wrexham this season and few would blame him for hoping that another exit route opens up on deadline day.
