Phil Parkinson is not rushing into any transfer dealings this summer as the Wrexham manager has said he’s “prepared to wait” to ensure his team targets the right players.
Despite the prospect of facing tougher opposition after winning promotion to League Two, the Wrexham boss has vowed not to overhaul his squad and will only look to sign players who can “make a difference.”

Wrexham boss Phil Parkinson ‘prepared to wait’ for new signings
Speaking to The Leader, manager Phil Parkinson explained the thought process behind Wrexham’s transfer dealings ahead of the coming League Two campaign.
“We get linked with a lot of players. Some have got an element of truth in, some haven’t got any at all,” Parkinson said.
The biggest rumours to emerge so far this summer have linked Wrexham with the signings of Former Manchester United starlet Nick Powell who has just been released by Stoke City as well as St Mirren striker Curtis Main.
“We are working hard behind the scenes to add quality and we are looking at several options but like I have stressed before, we won’t be making signings just for the sake of it, and just to say we have completed a signing,” added the manager.
“We don’t need to do that, and we are going into pre-season with a good squad already.
“A couple of players we want, we have spoken to the clubs where they are under contract. Those deals are obviously not straightforward.
“But we are well prepared to wait for the players we feel can make a difference.
“If not, we are more than happy with the squad we have got.”

How Wrexham’s existing squad shapes up
Despite not adding any new players so far in the summer transfer window, Wrexham are still being touted as one of the favourites to win promotion again this season and it’s not hard to see why given the quality already in Parkinson’s squad.
Leading the line going forwards are Ollie Palmer and Paul Mullin, both players who have League One experience to their names, while Mullin scored an eye-watering 32 goals for Cambridge as they secured promotion during the 2020/21 League Two campaign.
Liam McAlinden and Billy Waters add some crucial depth up front and both have spent time in Leagues One and Two.
Wrexham’s midfield maestro Elliot Lee has played as high as the Premier League when coming through the youth ranks at West Ham while more recently, he played in several Championship campaigns with Luton Town who now find themselves in the Premier League.
The Red Dragons’ midfield also features Anthony Forde and Andy Cannon who both have Championship experience on their respective CVs while Thomas O’Connor and James Jones have both played as high as League One.
And, of course, at the back, Wrexham have Ben Tozer whose long throw helped Cheltenham Town to the League Two title in 2020/21 while Callum McFadzean and Eoghan O’Connor both have experience in Leagues One and Two as well.
In goal, Wrexham boasts Premier League and international experience with Ben Foster while understudy Mark Howard has also spent most of his career playing in League One.
With the players at his disposal already, it’s hardly surprising to see Wrexham being eyed for promotion already, especially after finishing runners-up to Stockport County in 2021/22 who themselves reached the League Two play-off final at the end of last season.
