Wrexham have completed their first signing of transfer deadline day as a busy end to the window looks likely for the Red Dragons.
Wrexham have signed Ben Sheaf from Coventry City in a deal worth £6.5m as Phil Parkinson gets his wish of adding to his midfield options.
Declan Rice praised Sheaf following his performance in Coventry’s FA Cup semi-final defeat to Manchester United back in 2024 and the Red Dragons have got a player of great experience through the door.
With hours left of the window, Wrexham are still pushing for defensive acquisitions but both Parkinson and Sheaf are delighted to get the deal over the line.

Ben Sheaf ‘looking forward’ to contributing to Wrexham progress
Speaking to the club’s official website, Sheaf has spoken about his move to the Racecourse Ground and claims he was convinced by the club’s project after speaking to Parkinson.
Sheaf stated: “The trajectory the Club is on, I’m excited to be on board with that. From speaking to the manager, and from the ambition of the owners, it’s clear it’s only going one way. I’m looking forward to contributing.
“Change is always good, the move gets me out of my comfort zone – I’ve had some really good moments with Coventry and some memorable times but it’s come to a time to look for something new and something exciting.
“When the opportunity to move to Wrexham came up, it’s something I really wanted to be able to do – I’m excited to get started now.”
Phil Parkinson delighted with Championship experience Ben Sheaf will add to Wrexham
Also speaking upon the announcement, the Wrexham boss has expressed his excitement at the Championship experience that Sheaf will add to his squad.
Parkinson explained: “I’d like to welcome Ben to the Club. He’s a player with a lot of Championship experience and he will add real quality to the squad.”
It is expected that Sheaf will provide competition for Matty James at the anchor of Wrexham’s midfield, whilst he can also cover the likes of George Dobson after his impressive start to the season.
The Red Dragons got their first win of the season at Millwall and will now be feeling much more positive about the campaign ahead.
