Wrexham already have a top goalkeeper but could pounce to add another shot-stopper to Phil Parkinson’s squad.

Wrexham are yet to make a signing since winning promotion from League One, although the window has yet to really get going.

Phil Parkinson’s first signing of the transfer window last year saw Arthur Okonkwo join on a permanent basis.

Okonkwo was an enormous coup and turned in brilliant performances throughout Wrexham’s promotion-winning campaign.

Arsenal seem to regret losing Okonkwo on a free transfer, with the goalkeeper surely destined to play in the Premier League one day.

Wrexham are certainly happy with Okonkwo between the sticks, but Parkinson may yet seek to add more competition.

Wrexham linked with Danny Ward move

The Sun report that Wrexham are interested in bringing Danny Ward back to the STōK Cae Ras.

Ward emerged through the Wrexham youth ranks and his potential was spotted at a very early age.

Liverpool signed Ward in January 2012, but he only managed two league appearances for the Reds.

The Welsh international stopper has been with Leicester City since 2018, though the Foxes have now released Ward.

Ward is looking for a new club and Wrexham are allegedly willing to offer him a return to North Wales.

31-year-old Ward may well fancy a return home, but there are still some questions about a potential move this summer.

Danny Ward to Wrexham still feels like a long shot

We can understand Ward potentially fancying coming back to Wrexham and joining the club where his career started.

Ward left Wrexham before really cracking the first-team picture, and there may be a sense of unfinished business for the stopper.

The problem is that Ward would have little chance of displacing Okonkwo any time soon, barring an injury or a severe and unexpected dip in form.

Ward has spent most of his career sitting on the bench and few would blame him for chasing guaranteed first-team action now he has the freedom of being without a club.

Additionally, Wrexham already have a solid second-choice goalkeeper in Callum Burton, who showed his quality in Okonkwo’s absence this past season.

Mark Howard, Brad Foster and Liam Hall all leaving Wrexham may open up space for a new goalkeeper to arrive, but we would still be a little surprised if it was to be Ward arriving.
