Carlisle United have confirmed the signing of Luke Armstrong despite him being so close to signing for Wrexham over the summer.
In the summer transfer window, Wrexham were in the market for a striker and Luke Armstrong looked like he was coming in.
Unfortunately, the deal never happened and the forward remained at Harrogate Town for the start of the League Two season.
Luckily it hasn’t affected it Phil Parkinson and his side’s season as they currently occupy third place in the league.
With Paul Mullin performing up top, helped by the excellent form of Elliot Lee and Andy Cannon in the midfield three.
In saying that, the Reds were still interested in signing the Harrogate striker come the January transfer window. The latest revelation means this won’t be the case.
What have Carlisle United said about Luke Armstrong?
In a move that came out of the blue this week, Carlisle have announced the pre-transfer agreement of Armstrong.
In a post to their Twitter and official website, United confirmed the move. They said: “Harrogate Town, Carlisle United and Luke Armstrong can each confirm they have all reached and completed an agreement for a permanent transfer on 1 January 2024.
“Having already successfully completed his medical at Brunton Park, Luke will now leave Town with immediate effect to begin training with United. Pending the opening of the transfer window and transfer of his registration.”
This has pleased fans of the League One outfit who are happy to get the Englishman through the door at Brunton Park.
How have Wrexham fans reacted?
This transfer felt like a guarantee for Wrexham given how close the move came in January. With that being said, a move to the league above has come a calling.
This one came out of the blue from a Reds point of view but Carlisle fans are very excited. On the flip side, Wrexham fans have been left surprised but know there must be a reason behind not signing him.
This fan is putting their trust in Parkinson for his decision-making. They also believe that if the manager doesn’t want him, fans shouldn’t worry.
It would have been a great signing for Wrexham as they look to push for back-to-back promotions. There must be another idea in the pipeline for the January transfer window for Armstrong to be snubbed.
With Mullin, Palmer and Dalby, there is plenty of strength in depth in forward areas. Fans shouldn’t worry that this move hasn’t come to the fore.
