Tom Cairney considering ‘lucrative’ Wrexham offer as Fulham announce contract decision

Wrexham are looking to make big additions this summer with Fulham midfielder Tom Cairney thought to be one key target.

Phil Parkinson has a busy and potentially exciting transfer window ahead of him as Wrexham prepare for life in the Championship.

Wrexham have secured three straight promotions and are now being linked with some pretty big names.

Danny Ings has been linked with Wrexham as he prepares to leave West Ham United on a free transfer.

The mere notion of signing Danny Ings just a few years ago would have been completely bonkers but now seems more than plausible.

Wrexham are also keen on Tommy Doyle, with the Wolverhampton Wanderers midfielder valued at around £3million – which would be a new club-record move.

Fulham announce Tom Cairney decision

Doyle is far from the only midfielder linked with Wrexham, as Parkinson weighs up major additions to his engine room.

Reports in May suggested that Wrexham wanted Fulham captain Tom Cairney – and were ready to offer him huge wages.

Fulham fans chanted for Cairney to stay as he left the pitch following their final-day clash with Manchester City.

Cairney is out of contract this summer and Wrexham have been waiting on Fulham’s decision over his deal.

Fulham have now communicated their retained list, confirming that Cairney has been offered a new contract.

The 34-year-old only started three Premier League games this past season, coming off the bench in another 22 games.

Fulham fans absolutely love Cairney, but the interest from Wrexham leaves him with a lot to think about.

Tom Cairney weighing up his options

The London Evening Standard claim that Cairney is ‘considering options’, as his game time at Fulham is likely to be ‘limited’ if he signs on.

The report adds that Cairney does have a ‘lucrative offer’ from Wrexham on the table, which certainly complicates his thought process.

Cairney has become a modern-day Fulham hero, spending 10 years at Craven Cottage and racking up more than 350 appearances.

Fulham have been through players and managers in that time, but Cairney has been a constant.

Staying in West London no doubt appeals to Cairney on that basis, but he surely won’t want another season of starting just three games.

Wrexham can offer a key role in Parkinson’s side, a hefty pay packet and the chance to be part of a truly special project.

Cairney is surely tempted to bring his Fulham career to an end at 10 years and move on to try something new at Wrexham.

The time has come for Cairney to make a decision, but Wrexham are certainly right in the mix for his signature.
