Wrexham are close to agreeing their second signing of the transfer window with the acquisition of Luke Bolton from Salford City.

Phil Parkinson’s side have endured a very subdued January transfer window so far and although a whole host of names have been linked, their only confirmed signing is Luke McNicholas from Sligo Rovers.

Wrexham have targeted their forward line as the area they’d like to strengthen most, but unfortunately, none of their ambitious moves have paid off just yet.

Parkinson wanted to take the goalscoring burden somewhat away from Paul Mullin while relieving Elliot Lee of such pressure from midfield.

That said, their second signing of the window doesn’t look as though it’s going to be a striker as they close in on a move for winger Luke Bolton.

Wrexham agree fee for Luke Bolton

Yesterday it was reported that Wrexham were in advanced talks with Salford over completing a deal for their 24-year-old star.

Naturally, the next stage of the process is agreeing a transfer fee with the club and the Red Dragons can firmly say they’ve ticked that off the list.

Journalist Pete O’Rourke has revealed that a fee with their League Two rivals has been agreed and a deal could be finalised in the next 24 hours.

Bolton has assisted five goals in 25 appearances from various positions down the right flank as Salford have surprisingly struggled towards the bottom.

Wrexham now look set to cash in on their struggles and aid their assault towards promotion in the process.

Luke Bolton would be an astute signing

A Manchester City academy graduate, who once recorded 11 assists in 18 appearances for the Citizens U18’s side in the 2016/17 season, Bolton has since plied his trade in and around the EFL.

The former England U20 international has turned out for the likes of Wycombe Wanderers and Luton Town. During the 2019/20 campaign, he featured 24 times in the Championship for the Hatters and assisted twice.

In Wrexham’s 5-3-2 system that heavily relies on the wing-backs to provide the width, Bolton possesses the technical ability to become a driving force down the right flank and stamp his authority in the side.

After all, he did establish himself in one of the best academies in the country which is a true testament to the quality he could bring to Parkinson’s side, especially after journalist Josh Bunting hailed him as a “real talent”.

The Englishman not only brings tremendous quality and mouth-watering ammunition for the likes of Paul Mullin and Stephen Fletcher, but he’s also experienced playing at a higher level.

It’s such experience that will serve Wrexham well if they go on to win promotion to League One.
