Wrexham appear to be set to make their first new signing of the January transfer window in Luke Bolton from Salford City.

It has been a quiet transfer window so far for Wrexham which has only seen them sign Luke McNicholas on a permanent. Given that he had already spent the first half of the season on loan, this wasn’t that exciting.

There had been no lack of transfer links for Phil Parkinson’s side as the rumour mill has been in full swing this month.

Many rumours have come and gone with Aaron Collins, Jack Marriott and Stephen Humphrys being the most recent.

This had pointed towards an attacking signing being the preference for the Reds as they searched for a Paul Mullin partner.

There is a chance that this sort of transfer goes through in the last few days of the window. However, today a move looks likely to go through for a player in a different role entirely.

Luke Bolton set for Wrexham move

Finally, the transfer window appears to have kicked into life for the Reds as they appear to have agreed a deal for Luke Bolton.

This has today been reported by Pete O’Rourke which is sure to get Wrexham fans finally excited for a new transfer.

On that, he said: “Understand Wrexham are closing in on the signing of Salford ace Luke Bolton The two clubs are now in advanced talks over a deal for the 24-year-old.”

The Englishman has played for a variety of EFL sides in recent years. He began his career in the Manchester City Academy before making various loans away. This has seen him feature for Wycombe Wanderers, Luton Town and Dundee.

In January 2022 he made a move on a free transfer to Salford City following his release from City after eight years.

According to FotMob, Bolton has gone on to make 92 appearances for The Ammies where he has scored six goals. He has played 20 matches this season and has so far registered five assists.

These stats may not seem spectacular but what will make him useful for Parkinson and his side is his versatility.

Looking at his WhoScored profile, he has played in a wide array of positions so far this campaign. Bolton can play anywhere down the right-hand side and is also comfortable playing in central midfield.

It isn’t the signing that anyone expected given all the strikers linked to the club but there won’t be any complaints.
