Wrexham have just one League Two game left to play and the attention will soon turn to potential signings during the summer transfer window.
Phil Parkinson took his side on the road on Saturday afternoon with the job of securing promotion already done and dusted.
Saturday’s trip to Crewe Alexandra didn’t have too much riding on it from Wrexham’s perspective but we still saw a dominant victory.
Ollie Palmer put Wrexham in front as his diving header from a Paul Mullin cross found the net.
The pair linked up again as Palmer found Mullin with a flick-on and the Liverpudlian executed a perfect lob to make it 2-0.
Andy Cannon added a third after the break, handing Wrexham a comfortable 3-0 victory away from home.
Wrexham will hope to finish the season on a high against champions Stockport County next weekend, but the summer is now in sight.
Wrexham fans chant for Arthur Okonkwo deal
It’s unclear just who Wrexham will focus on trying to sign this summer but we would imagine that one top target will be goalkeeper Arthur Okonkwo.
The Arsenal talent has spent this season on loan at Wrexham and has impressed as the first-choice goalkeeper under Parkinson.
Okonkwo is out of contract this summer and is seemingly ready to leave Arsenal on a free transfer.
We would love to see Okonkwo sign permanently and it looks like Wrexham players would too.
James McClean and Ryan Barnett were both seen urging Okonkwo to join Wrexham permanently last week and fans joined in with those calls on Saturday.
Wrexham supporters at Crewe on Saturday were chanting ‘sign the contract’ at Okonkwo, as captured by the RobRyanRed podcast.
Okonkwo applauded the Wrexham fans and celebrated with teammates, beaming with a huge smile from ear to ear.
Premier League battle on the cards
Whether the love from the Wrexham fans and his teammates is enough to keep him at the STōK Cae Ras remains to be seen.
Wrexham seemingly face a battle for his signature as the Daily Mail claim that Championship and even Premier League clubs are interested.
European clubs are also keen having seen Okonkwo previously spend time on loan at Sturm Graz in Austria.
That is major competition for Okonkwo’s signature and it’s unlikely that Wrexham will have the biggest offer on the table.
Wrexham can though offer Okonkwo a settled home and a first-choice role, which will surely appeal to the 22-year-old.
Okonkwo will take his time and weigh everything up before committing to a new club, but we would expect plenty of chants for him to stay at the club during the final game of his Wrexham loan spell next week.
