Another rising Wrexham star is now attracting interest from the Championship as we head toward the winter window.
The Red Dragons’ rise up the EFL in the last few years is of course great for the club, but it is bringing some unwanted transfer interest.
Previously, very few clubs were interested in signing Wrexham players because, up until the Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds era, they were lacking quality options.
However, their recruitment and long-term plans have seen the Welsh outfit grow massively since 2021, producing some top talent.
Ryan Barnett was linked to Stoke City and Preston North End earlier this year after his prolific start to the season.
Barnett has now signed a new Wrexham contract, which should ward off any potential suitors for the time being.
But another of the Red Dragons’ players is also now garnering the attention of clubs in the second tier.

Championship clubs scouting Wrexham gem Tom Kelly
The player in question is young defender Tom Kelly, who has been impressing for the club’s U18 side in 2024/25.
Kelly shone for Wrexham in the FA Youth Cup in October and was back in action on Wednesday, December 11th.
The Welsh side were once again competing in the FA Youth Cup, this time taking on Lincoln City.
Ahead of the game, Wrexham released their starting line-up, which included Kelly.
Wrexham podcast Rob. Ryan Red, which is run by journalists Nathan Salt and Rich Fay, then provided an interesting update on the defender, confirming Championship scouts are watching him.
They wrote: “Lots of scouts very excited about the potential of Tom Kelly in this team, too.”
Replying to a comment on the post, they added: “Can’t name the specific scouts but operating on behalf of Championship academies. He’s the name that’s been brought up most often this season.”
Wrexham players who could attract interest from Championship
As well as Kelly, there are plenty more names in the Red Dragons’ system that could be wanted by clubs in higher divisions over the next year.
Wrexham were sent a Max Cleworth transfer warning earlier this season, with the centre-back seemingly destined to play at a higher level given how much he has developed this season.
Lewis Brunt, though he has only just joined over the summer, may also begin to attract attention due to how well he has played in the last month or so.
But if Wrexham can win promotion in 2024/25, the chances of them losing some of their best names will surely decrease.
