Wrexham are interested in signing Swindon Town midfielder, Saidou Khan in a six-figure deal in the upcoming January window.
It has been a great start to the season for Wrexham as they currently sit in second place in League Two after 20 games.
With that being said, the January transfer window poses an opportunity for Phil Parkinson to add some additional quality to his squad.
In the summer window, there were six first-team incomings but with stars like Steven Fletcher and Arthur Okonkwo being injured, new players might be needed.
Although the Reds are in a great league position right now, they have already been impacted by injuries in a big way. There will need to be signings to fill out the squad to protect their league position late into the season.
With that being said, the latest rumour sees a midfield option be linked to The Racecourse this winter.
Who is Saidou Khan?
In a report from Pete O’Rourke, he has suggested that Wrexham are plotting a move for the Swindon Town midfielder.
The Gambian has played for the League Two outfit since 2022 and has gone on to make over 50 appearances. Saidou Khan is an all-action midfielder who prefers to sit deeper but isn’t afraid to break forward where possible.
In 17 appearances for The Robins, he has registered a goal and an assist in that time. That has seen them rise as high as 8th, at the time of writing.
At 27-years old he has plenty of experience of the English leagues, especially the National League and wouldn’t represent much of a risk.
Should Wrexham sign him?
With the quality of the Wrexham midfield this season with George Evans, Andy Cannon and Elliot Lee, Khan would be a squad option to begin with.
What must be said is that the Reds have plenty of squad depth right now, especially in midfield. Although the defensive midfield depth is not as apparent as Evans is the only true DM.
It is suggested that Khan would cost upwards of £350,000 which is quite expensive for a deal between two League Two sides. For a player who would not be guaranteed to start to begin with it may be a bit much to spend.
It must be said that Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney haven’t been afraid to splash the cash when necessary. This could be a very useful signing for the Reds and one who can help contribute to the promotion efforts.
