Wrexham are poised to sign Liberato Cacace from Empoli and are now moving to add a new midfielder to Phil Parkinson’s squad.

Wrexham have secured two signings so far this summer, with goalkeeper Danny Ward and striker Ryan Hardie arriving.

Phil Parkinson has been working on more additions during Wrexham’s tour of Australia and New Zealand, and a double breakthrough could be imminent.

Reports in Italy suggest Wrexham are close to signing Liberato Cacace from Empoli.

The New Zealand left-back is on the verge of completing a club-record move to the STōK Cae Ras after relegation from Serie A.

Another signing could now be in the pipeline as Parkinson eyes up an addition to his Wrexham engine room.

Wrexham make George Thomason move

The Bolton News now report that Wrexham are making a £1.2million move to sign Bolton Wanderers midfielder George Thomason.

It’s suggested that Parkinson wants to raid his former club with a move to bring Thomason to Wrexham.

Huddersfield Town had been chasing Thomason, but are considered ‘unlikely’ to match Wrexham’s spending power.

24-year-old Thomason is happy at Bolton, but a move to Wrexham would allow him to play in the Championship.

That may be too good to turn down, and Wanderers would surely be tempted to sell with a seven-figure offer potentially on the table.

Thomason was appointed Bolton captain last season, with then-manager Ian Evatt telling The Bolton News that the midfielder is a ‘natural leader’ and an ‘outstanding player’.

“George is a natural leader on and off the pitch, as well as an outstanding player, who will bring different qualities to the role at this time,” said Evatt.

“All the staff and players are fully behind him and I know he will thrive on what being captain of this club means as we look to make a winning start with him as skipper,” he added.

Wrexham may now pounce to sign Thomason and give him the chance to continue his impressive journey up through the leagues.

Thomason hails from Barrow-in-Furness but began his career in the Blackpool youth ranks, initially developing as a left-back.

After being released at the age of 16, Thomason dropped into non-league football with Longridge Town and was converted to play as a midfielder.

Thomason hasn’t looked back since and caught the attention of Bolton, who provided a first real EFL chance.

Loans to Bamber Bridge followed, but Thomason broke into the Bolton side in the 2020-21 season and has now played almost 170 games for the Trotters.

Thomason has bagged 13 goals and 16 assists for Bolton and continues to step up through the leagues admirably.

Wrexham could now offer a Championship move, with Parkinson seemingly left impressed by Thomason’s development in League One.
