Wrexham fans are waiting for a third summer signing, and reports in Italy suggest Phil Parkinson could be closing in on a new addition.
Wrexham’s pre-season tour moves on to New Zealand following Tuesday’s 2-1 defeat to Sydney FC.
Wellington Phoenix are the final opponents of Wrexham’s Down Under Tour, before Phil Parkinson and co. head back to North Wales.
Parkinson has called upon two new signings during this tour, with Danny Ward and Ryan Hardie both involved.
Parkinson is also working on signings during his time in Australia, and Wrexham appear to be close to a breakthrough.

Wrexham close in on Liberato Cacace signing
Reports last week suggested that Wrexham were targeting Empoli’s Liberato Cacace for a move to the STōK Cae Ras.
The New Zealand international had attracted interest from a number of Italian clubs, but Wrexham were right in the mix.
The race for Cacace was ‘wide open’ just a few days ago, and Wrexham may be about to win that race.
Two Empoli-based websites – Pianeta Empoli and Calcio Empoli – both claim that Cacace is poised to sign for Wrexham.
A deal of around €3million (£2.6million) was mentioned, with Pianeta Empoli adding that the deal is ‘imminent’.
Those reports have now been backed up by Gianluca Di Marzio, one of Italy’s most prominent transfer reporters.
Di Marzio claims that Wrexham’s deal to sign Cacace is ‘done’, and will cost €2.5million (£2.2million) plus bonuses.
Cacace had been expected to leave Empoli following their relegation from Serie A, and Wrexham appear to have swooped in to land a real coup.
Wrexham poised to sign Liberato Cacace ahead of Wellington Phoenix clash
Parkinson dropped an interesting hint last week, suggesting that signing a player from Australia or New Zealand would be ‘great’ for Wrexham.
Cacace appears to be the signing of choice, just days away from Wrexham’s clash with Wellington Phoenix.
The left wing-back not only hails from Wellington himself, but also came up through the Wellington Phoenix youth ranks.
Cacace played 60 times for the Wellington Phoenix first team before moving on to Belgian side Sint-Truiden in 2020.
It would be quite poetic for Cacace to make his first Wrexham appearance against Wellington Phoenix this weekend, though there isn’t much time to finalise the deal.
Unveiling a signing in another team’s stadium is surely one of football’s great rarities, but Cacace’s move to Wrexham could be the ideal opportunity.
Wellington Phoenix would surely be more than happy to welcome Cacace back this weekend, while Wrexham can create quite the moment by parading him in the famous red shirt.
That is something to monitor in the coming days, but whether or not Cacace has any level of involvement in Wellington this weekend, he appears set to become Wrexham’s record signing in the coming days.
