Wrexham welcomed Bristol Rovers to the Racecourse Ground on Friday for a huge game in the League One promotion picture.
Phil Parkinson’s Wrexham side started the day in 2nd after their 0-0 draw against Wigan Athletic in the game before, just one point above Wycombe Wanderers in 3rd who took on Bolton Wanderers on Friday afternoon. Bristol Rovers started the day in 21st.
But you’d have been forgiven for thinking Wrexham and Bristol Rovers were both fighting relegation after watching that one. It was a turgid afternoon of football and Wrexham did well to eventually rescue a point through Matty James, who scored in the 76th minute after Taylor Moore’s first half goal for the Gas, with Wrexham and Bristol Rovers drawing 1-1 in the end.
Unfortunately for Wrexham, Wycombe Wanderers’ 1-0 win away at Bolton Wanderers means they leapfrog Wrexham in the table, now sitting in 2nd with the Dragons in 3rd.

Bristol Rovers began the day in the drop zone. And their fans will likely have travelled to Wales with very little confidence after six-straight defeats and after manager Inigo Calderon suggests his Bristol Rovers players aren’t good enough for League One. But they held their own in the opening stages of the game especially, scoring a rather deserved goal in the 32nd minute.
Before the game kicked off, an image started to circulate on X showing the travelling Bristol Rovers fans sporting Ryan Reynolds masks on the bus journey to the Racecourse. The Wrexham co-owner is a hugely popular actor and person in general, but maybe not so much among rival fans of Wrexham, given their unprecedented success in the last few years.

Reynolds wasn’t in attendance at the game against Bristol Rovers. Or at least he wasn’t spotted at the game. Rob McElhenney was, though.
Fans took pictures with the Hollywood star before the game and he could be seen in the executive box throughout the game. But whether he would’ve been impressed with what he saw remains to be seen.
Nonetheless, 3rd place with three games to go is a huge achievement in their first season in League One. Its just disappointing to lose 2nd in these circumstances.
Up next for Wrexham is a trip to Blackpool on Monday.
