Phil Parkinson praised Wrexham’s ‘character and strength’ following his team’s dramatic 3-2 win over Salford this weekend.
Wrexham have developed an incredible knack for nabbing last-minute goals, and they proved that once again this weekend with a dramatic 3-2 win against Salford.
Wrexham stun Salford with two last-gasp goals
The Reds’ porous defence reared its ugly head once again in the first half as they went 2-0 down inside the first 36 minutes. However, Elliott Lee provided a lifeline just before halftime as pulled a goal back.
Wrexham continued to probe for an equaliser but were unable to find it until the introduction of Steven Fletcher and Jordan Davies
Fletcher smashed in an 87th minute equaliser to salvage a point, however, Davies had other ideas as he popped up 54 seconds later to net the winner and secure all three points for the Dragons.
Phil Parkinson praises substitutes for making a difference
It was another huge win for Wrexham who now move up to fifth, three points behind League Two leaders Stockport County. Crucially, it keep them well among the playoff places as they remain in the hunt for back-to-back promotions.
After the game, manager Phil Parkinson paid special mention to his substitute’s for changing the game.
“I’m so pleased with the win, it was one of those days where the sun was low and there was a bit of a lacklustre feel to the game,” he said.
“We didn’t play with the quality I wanted in that first period but we still had some good moments and some good chances.
“I felt if we got it to 2-2 the momentum would be really with us and we’d go on and win the game and that’s what happened.
“And special mention to the subs because on days like that where you just need a lift of tempo and energy they really gave us it.”

‘Character and strength’: Parkinson praises mentality after dramatic 3-2 win over Salford
Parkinson also praised the ‘character and strength’ of the group, something which he believes will be pivotal moving froward.
“I think it is character and strength of mentality in the group,” said the Reds’ boss. “That is really important and we have got that.
“When you look around the group, there is some real strength there.
“It keeps our run going. The lads are working incredibly hard and it is another great example of what the club is all about.”
