David Beckham was one of many celebrities in attendance for Wrexham’s Hollywood clash against Birmingham City on Monday night.
The Manchester United icon was joined by his son, Romeo, along with former teammate Gary Neville, Wrexham co-owner Rob McElhenney and Birmingham City part-owner Tom Brady.
While the clash between two League One titans attracted many popular figures, the action on the pitch was more important, as Birmingham secured a 3-1 victory over Wrexham.
Beckham would have seen Phil Parkinson’s men take the lead into the match as Jack Marriott’s goal sent shockwaves around St Andrews however, the Blues responded thanks to a Jay Stansfield brace and a wonderful Tomoki Itawa strike.
Although Wrexham slipped to their first league defeat of the campaign, Parkinson dubbed his players as ‘excellent’ in the opening half an hour and that wasn’t the only aspect of the match that drew such praise.

David Beckham praises the atmosphere in Birmingham City vs Wrexham
It was an unbelievable spectacle on Monday night as almost 30,000 spectators gathered at St Andrews to watch a League One fixture.
For a match in the third tier, it was a pinch-yourself moment for many as this level of support doesn’t happen in any other third division across Europe, or perhaps even the world.
The atmosphere also lived up to expectations as both sets of fans were heard chanting loudly throughout the game.
Beckham – who has played and watched football at the highest level – was left impressed by the noise inside the stadium and claimed he’d not seen an atmosphere like that for a ‘very long time’.
Speaking on CBS Sports coverage of the Champions League on Tuesday night, Beckham said: “It was great last night. The atmosphere was amazing. I’ve not seen an atmosphere like that for a long time where Birmingham and Wrexham fans were incredible.”
Beckham is one of the most famous footballers to ever live, so for him to laud the atmosphere as ‘amazing’ for a match Wrexham was involved in would have been a surreal moment.
Rob McElhenney praises Wrexham fans
Beckham wasn’t the only one who praised the atmosphere, as McElhenney was left blown away by the support of Wrexham fans in the defeat, simply stating ‘wow’ accompanied by three explosive emojis.
McElhenney uses watches Wrexham at the Racecourse Ground when he gets an opportunity, so this was a rare chance to see what the fans were like on their travels and they’re arguably louder away from home.
The travelling contingent never stopped singing and chanting throughout the ninety minutes, even when the hosts dominated most of the match.
Nonetheless, the fact that Wrexham have gone from playing the likes of Boreham Wood to being praised by Beckham in the space of a few years is incredible.
