In a Hollywood clash of the titans at St Andrews, Birmingham City came out on top but Ryan Reynolds still showed his class at full-time.
Wrexham were beaten 3-1 by Birmingham City on Monday to taste their first league defeat of the season.
Phil Parkinson’s men were dominated for most of the match, as the Blues took control of the contest but that wasn’t till after Jack Marriott scored inside three minutes.
That goal sent the Wrexham fans and co-owner Rob McElhenney into pandemonium however, it also woke Birmingham up, as they continuously sent wave after wave of attack on the visitor’s goal.
A Jay Stansfield brace and a third from Tomoki Iwata took the game away from Wrexham while Paul Mullin’s incident with Alex Cochrane was also brought into the spotlight.

Ryan Reynolds classy message to Tom Brady after Wrexham’s loss vs Birmingham
McElhenney was in attendance at the match alongside Birmingham part-owner Tom Brady while David Beckham, Romeo Beckham and Gary Neville were pictured watching on from the stands.
McElhenney would have been in dreamland when Marriott put the visitors ahead but the Hollywood owner was brought back down to earth after the Blues scored three.
While McElhenney was able to attend the game in person, Ryan Reynolds was only present courtesy of a video call and had to take the mocking songs in good humour.
Despite this, Reynolds still showed his class after the game by congratulating Brady on his side’s win via Instagram. He wrote: “Tough loss to a good club congrats @bcfc, @tombrady on the win. Lots of the season to go. Up the Town. Now and forever.”
Why Wrexham have no reason to panic after Birmingham loss
The Blues are expected to storm League One this season after Birmingham’s ‘crazy’ spending in the summer.
Stansfield – who netted twice against the Reds – became the most expensive player in the division’s history after joining for a fee in excess of £15 million.
For any team to compete with the Blues was going to be extremely difficult and for the first 20 minutes, Wrexham did.
They pressed the hosts high and played their usual quick and direct style of football, with Marriott scoring in the opening few minutes.
Sadly, this only caused Wrexham to sink deeper as Phil Parkinson said to the players at full-time that their low block was the cause of their downfall.
There’s no shame in being beaten by the riches of Birmingham, who should storm to the league title and Wrexham will have a chance to recover at home to Crawley Town this weekend.
