Wrexham demolished Shrewsbury Town on Saturday afternoon as Phil Parkinson saw his side claim bragging rights at the STōK Cae Ras.

With the first international break of the season upon us, Wrexham were one of few League One games actually taking place over the weekend.

International call-ups meant most of the League One schedule was postponed, but that wasn’t the case for Wrexham.

Instead, Wrexham went into the heat of a derby day battle, taking on rivals Shrewsbury Town at the STōK Cae Ras.

This was a comfortable win for Wrexham in the end as Phil Parkinson saw his side rack up a 3-0 victory.

Ollie Palmer and Elliot Lee had Wrexham 2-0 up before half time with Jack Marriott adding number three after the break.

Humphrey Ker celebrates Jack Marriott form

Wrexham have now kept four clean sheets in a row and have won three games on the bounce.

It’s only early, but Wrexham now sit top of the League One table and everybody around the club appears to be on cloud nine.

That includes striker Marriott, who has started the season in red-hot form.

Marriott’s goal against Shrewsbury was his third in five League One games to start to the campaign.

Marriott is effectively keeping Paul Mullin out of the Wrexham side right now; if he keeps scoring, Parkinson will find it difficult to drop him.

The striker celebrated Saturday’s win on Instagram, simply stating ‘great day at the racecourse with the boys’.

Teammates praised Marriott and showed their support for Marriott as his impressive form continued on derby day.

Marriott even received a message from Humphrey Ker as the Wrexham executive commented saying ‘almost too many goals if anything’.

Ker’s sense of humour always shines through but it’s clear that he is loving Marriott’s current form as Wrexham pick up win after win.

Marriott proving his worth

Wrexham fans had doubts about Marriott at the end of last season.

Marriott arrived in January but struggled to really make an impact, scoring just once before the end of the campaign.

Yet with star striker Mullin out injured, somebody had to step up – and the responsibility has fallen on Marriott.

Parkinson has praised Marriott for his work rate and intelligence, appreciating his impact in the Wrexham attack.

Mullin is back but only from the bench right now with Marriott keeping hold of his starting shirt.

As long as the goals keep flowing and the performances remain at a high level, Marriott will be keeping Mullin out of the team for a little while yet.
