Wrexham will be without striker Paul Mullin this summer as the striker recovers from spinal surgery, ruling him out of the Wrex Coast Tour.

Pre-season is upon us and the focus is turning towards Wrexham’s trip to the United States and Canada.

Wrexham will be heading to take on Bournemouth, Chelsea and Vancouver Whitecaps in another exciting pre-season tour.

Phil Parkinson will be able to test his Wrexham side against top opposition as the League One kick-off draws ever closer.

Signings Arthur Okonkwo and Lewis Brunt will be included on that tour and fans will be able to see the duo in action.

Sadly though, Wrexham will be without one key man as Paul Mullin has been ruled out of action.

Paul Mullin sends message to Wrexham fans

Wrexham confirmed on Thursday morning that Mullin has undergone ‘minor spinal surgery’ in London.

Mullin went under the knife in June in an attempt to correct issues in his lower back and hamstring.

The surgery means that Mullin will miss the tour to America but will hopefully return for the League One season.

Wrexham did though note that there is ‘no timeframe’ on Mullin’s return, so Parkinson is left crossing his fingers and hoping for the best.

Mullin is one of the leading attractions in this Wrexham side and American fans would have been desperate to see him in action this summer.

The Wrexham goal machine featured in last season’s tour but suffered a nasty injury against Manchester United, keeping out for the start of the campaign.

Mullin would be forgiven for thinking that he is cursed when it comes to Wrexham’s American tours and he has now sent a message to Wrexham fans.

Mullin admitted that he is ‘gutted’ to be missing out but simply ‘couldn’t go on any longer’ without surgery.

The Wrexham striker wants to make sure that he is in top condition for the league season, thanking fans for their messages after his lay-of was announced.

Mullin will now focus on his rehabilitation and his absence may force Wrexham into the transfer market for another striker.

The fear is that Mullin will take a while to get back up to speed – just as was the case a year ago.

After returning from injury, Mullin scored just twice in his first seven league games.

Mullin ended up finishing the season with 24 league goals to his name, but Wrexham won’t want to see him make a slow start in League One.

Having the surgery early hopefully gives Mullin the best chance of being fit and available come August, but it’s now a nervous wait for Mullin, Parkinson and the Wrexham fanbase.
