Wrexham goalscorer Jack Marriott noticed a key difference after the 3-2 win against Wycombe Wanderers.
Wrexham managed to live up to expectations in their first game of the League One season as they beat Wycombe Wanderers 3-2, with Max Cleworth, Steven Fletcher and Jack Marriott bagging the goals.
Marriott’s goal in particular gained all the plaudits after he perfectly executed a left-footed strike past the Wycombe Wanderers goalkeeper, which was praised by fellow Reds striker Paul Mullin on social media.
Wrexham co-owner Rob McElhenney was also in awe of the former Derby County strikers’ goal, and suggested that everyone will see big things from the attacker that managed just one goal since his arrival last January.
Whilst the Reds started off the campaign with three points at the Racecourse Ground, Marriott noticed some clear differences to applying his trade in League One in comparison to last season.

Jack Marriott on the key difference between League One and Two
Marriott has previous experience of performing to the best of his abilities whilst in League One, after a 27-goal season in the 2017/18 campaign with his former club Peterborough.
However, he still noticed the big difference of moving up the leagues, as he said to talkSPORT at 8:54 am: “I think as you go up, there’s a difference in quality.
“I feel like I noticed especially this Saturday, you know, with a two-goal lead, sometimes the lower down you go, teams fall off whereas you don’t get that at this level. Teams will continue to fight no matter how late on in the game, and that’s what Wycombe did on Saturday.
“They came back twice and almost gave us a run for our money late on in the game, but we managed to see it out.”

Jack Marriott’s experience in League One could be crucial
When looking across Wrexham’s side, there are a few players dotted around with experience playing at League One level, however not many come close to Marriott, who has tallied 115 appearances in this league, scoring 46 goals.
The Wrexham striker may not be at the peak of his powers, although his goal against Wycombe could lead to the attacker beginning to return to his best, but nonetheless he is still a massively important asset for Phil Parkinson’s side.
In the dressing room he will be crucial in calming the tensions and the pressure that is automatically exerted on players when at Wrexham, and that sort of experience and leadership is necessary once the team reaches the business end of the season.
The Reds must not take advantage of Marriott’s experience, especially if the season does not go according to plan, as the talisman will prove to be a massively important factor in the team, whether he is playing or not.
