Wrexham secured a vital win on the road, beating Nigel Clough’s Mansfield Town 2-1 on Sunday afternoon to continue the promotion push.

Wrexham fans were expecting a response for the trip to Mansfield Town.

Phil Parkinson’s side lost to Leyton Orient in midweek, turning in a poor performance in a 2-1 defeat at the STōK Cae Ras.

The trip to Mansfield Town offered Wrexham a chance to hit back though with the Stags in dire form heading into the game.

Add in Wycombe Wanderers dropping points to Wigan Athletic this weekend and Wrexham simply had to turn up.

Max Cleworth was the Wrexham match-winner, firing home in the second half to hand Wrexham a 2-1 win after Mansfield’s Calum Macdonald had scored at both ends.

Phil Parkinson hails Wrexham star

Wrexham were comfortably the better side and there will be frustration at failing to score more goals.

Parkinson will be pleased with the response after losing in midweek and his changes certainly paid off.

Wrexham’s lineup featured a number of alterations from the defeat to Orient with Parkinson shaking things up a little.

One man to come in was Sebastian Revan with the left wing back given a chance to shine.

Wrexham snapped up Revan from Aston Villa over the summer and his exciting pre-season suggested that a big season was on the way.

Sadly, that hasn’t quite worked out with Revan stuck behind James McClean in Wrexham’s left wing back pecking order.

McClean’s absence against Mansfield presented a chance for Revan though and he offered a threat up the left flank.

Speaking to Wrexham’s official YouTube channel, Parkinson heaped praise on Revan for his impressive performance, suggesting that he was ‘really, really good’.

“I’m delighted for Seb, delighted for Seb to play so well,” said Parkinson.

“I thought he was really, really good today,” he added.

Sebastian Revan took his chance to shine

It may sound like a cliche but it really is a long, long season and everybody has a part to play.

Revan has endured a frustrating season but this was a reminder of the threat that he can provide.

The 21-year-old linked up well with former Rotherham United teammate Ollie Rathbone down Wrexham’s left and he really staked his claim for more action.

Andy Cannon’s worrying injury may mean that McClean ends up playing more in midfield when he returns from injury.

That could open up more playing time for Revan and with Parkinson clearly delighted, the former Villa talent may well have a big part to play in the promotion run-in.
