Wrexham got back to winning ways in the league thanks to a 2-1 victory over Mansfield Town, and one player stole the headlines for the Red Dragons.
After the defeat in midweek to Leyton Orient at the Racecourse Ground, many Wrexham fans were ready to write off the Red Dragons’ chances of automatic promotion.
However, results went Wrexham’s way this weekend, and Phil Parkinson’s men were able to capitalise with three points of their own today.
An own goal got the ball rolling in a dominant display away at Mansfield Town, but one player won Wrexham the game and had the fans ready to crown him player of the season already.

Max Cleworth is the toast of Wrexham once more after winning goal
He got the highest score in our Wrexham player ratings after the win over Mansfield, and Max Cleworth has been earning high praise from fans on social media thanks to his match-winning strike.
Cleworth struck a lovely goal from long-range to win the game just before the hour-mark, prompting one fan to write: “Top top footballer, going all the way to the top.”
Another supporter celebrated the win and the goal, but claimed Cleworth is “too good for League One.” Let’s hope Wrexham can get promoted quick, then, so they can keep hold of him.
One Wrexham fan made a huge comparison in relation to Cleworth and his goal, writing: “Franz Beckenbauer-esque finish that. What a strike.”
Another added: “We may not have any midfielders who can pass forwards but, we have a child at the back who hits screamers.”
However, it’s not just his goal that caught the eye. One fan posted, “He’s been brilliant today with his ball carrying,” while another proclaimed Cleworth to be Wrexham’s “Player of the season,” despite there being 14 games still remaining in the League One season.

Max Cleworth becomes Wrexham’s top scorer this season, and he’s a future captain in waiting
Rather surprisingly, Max Cleworth, a defender, is now Wrexham’s joint-top scorer after bagging his eighth goal of the season. He is level with Elliot Lee at the top of the goal charts now.
It’s rather incredible, really. Cleworth is proving to be a real goal threat from a variety of different situations — be it long-range shots or scrappy set-piece headers. And, on top of that, he’s always solid at the back, too.
The 22-year-old, a Wrexham academy graduate, has already made 100 appearances for the club, too. He was handed the captain’s armband on Tuesday night when James McClean left the field of play against Leyton Orient, and we’re sure we will see Cleworth wearing that plenty more in the future.
There can be no better choice for Wrexham’s next skipper than someone who has come through the ranks, and is the kind of player that embodies the Red Dragons’ spirit.
