Wrexham boss Phil Parkinson has outlined the ‘good chat’ he had with Ollie Palmer and his future at the Racecourse Ground.

Wrexham face Southampton on their travels as they kick off their 2025/26 Championship season.

In what has been one of the most anticipated seasons in Wrexham’s recent history, the Red Dragons owners, Ryan Reynolds and Rob Mac, have shown their ambition by backing Phil Parkinson in the summer transfer window.

Several strikers have been brought through the door, with Ryan Hardie joining Wrexham, whilst Josh Windass and Kieffer Moore have also arrived.

This does mean that departures are expected at Wrexham, and whilst Paul Mullin left on loan for Wigan Athletic and Mo Faal more recently joined Port Vale, a decision has now been made on whether Ollie Palmer will stay at the club.

Palmer’s future at Wrexham has been in doubt, and Parkinson has finally confirmed what will happen to the Red Dragons forward this summer.

Phil Parkinson says Ollie Palmer ‘needs to go’ as Wrexham future becomes unlikely

It has now been confirmed, via The Athletic, that Ollie Palmer will leave Wrexham this summer.

Phil Parkinson was asked about Palmer’s future at the club, to which he responded: “Kieffer Moore came in.

“So I had a good chat with Ollie Palmer this week. He needs to go and play, he knows that.

“Ollie has been brilliant for us, a great servant, but he’s ready to go and play.”

The signing of Kieffer Moore was confirmed earlier this week, with the Welshman joining Wrexham in a deal worth £4m.

Palmer has made it clear that he would be keen to stay at Wrexham; however, such uncertainties regarding his game time could force his hand away from the Red Dragons ahead of the Championship season.

Ollie Palmer will be remembered fondly at the Racecourse Ground

When Ollie Palmer arrived at Wrexham, he was an instant hit in the National League, providing a brilliant goal record that came close to matching Paul Mullin’s.

15 goals in 21 appearances in his maiden Wrexham season made it clear that Phil Parkinson had found an incredible goalscorer at this level, and that was followed up by another 16 goals the season after, where he played his part in the Red Dragons notching promotion from the National League.

The Wrexham striker has been front and centre of several aspects of the club in recent years, from becoming close to Wrexham owners Ryan Reynolds and Rob Mac, to being an experienced player in the dressing room who the youngsters could turn towards.

Palmer will always be remembered as a fan favourite for his time at Wrexham, and there will no doubt be Red Dragons fans keen to see how he progresses away from North Wales.
