Wrexham secured top spot in Group B of the EFL Trophy after drawing 1-1 away at League Two side Port Vale on Tuesday night.
Wrexham recently endured a cup nightmare against Harrogate Town, losing 1-0 to crash out of the FA Cup in the first round.
Phil Parkinson hit back in League One over the weekend, beating Mansfield Town 1-0 at the STōK Cae Ras to get right back on track.
Wrexham were back in cup action on Tuesday night though as a trip to Port Vale brought the curtain down on the EFL Trophy group stage.
Parkinson intended to make 11 changes to his Wrexham starting XI but an injury for Will Boyle in the lineup saw Max Cleworth start.
Cleworth opened the scoring for Wrexham before Port Vale levelled it up late on – and then won on penalties.

Phil Parkinson on Sebastian Revan display
Wrexham progress with seven points from three games with that shootout ultimately meaningless.
Parkinson wanted to finish top of the group and achieved that goal, progressing to the knockout stages with no drama.
Wrexham could face Tranmere Rovers in the next round and Parkinson has reflected on a largely positive night.
Fringe players needed minutes and wing back Sebsastian Revan was a prime example.
We expected Revan to start on the Wrexham bench after failing to even make the squad against Mansfield Town, and that was the case.
Revan struggled against Harrogate too with the summer signing not quite at his best of late.
Luke Bolton’s injury saw Revan come on in the first half though and Parkinson was delighted with his impact.
Speaking on Wrexham’s official Youtube channel, Parkinson suggested that Revan was back to his best with a ‘great’ performance off the bench.
“I thought Seb came on and got back to how Seb can play,” said Parkinson.
“He was great, he looked a real threat,” he added.
Revan needed successful Wrexham appearance
Revan started the season in exciting fashion and looked to be knocking on the door for a regular starting role.
The-21-year-old has seen his form dip of late though with James McClean and now Jacob Mendy seemingly ahead of him in the pecking order at left wing back.
Revan needed to take his next opportunity when it arrived and Parkinson clearly felt that he did that against Port Vale.
A starting role against Stockport County seems unlikely but James McClean has an injury issue, so Revan will need to be ready to go if called upon this weekend.
