Wrexham suffered frustration on the road on Saturday afternoon as Phil Parkinson’s side could only manage a 1-1 draw away at Bristol Rovers.

Wrexham dropped points last weekend as Cambridge United bagged a late leveller at the STōK Cae Ras, salvaging a 2-2 draw.

Phil Parkinson was looking to hit back in the final away game of 2024 as Wrexham travelled to take on Bristol Rovers.

Bristol Rovers sacked boss Matt Taylor ahead of the game, making this something of an unknown quantity for Parkinson.

Wrexham took the lead in the first half as Matty James produced a superb assist for Elliot Lee to slot home the opener.

Wrexham couldn’t find a second though and were made to pay as Promise Omochere headed home a late leveller.

Phil Parkinson on Elliot Lee

For the second weekend in a row, Wrexham were made to pay late on.

Parkinson must be so frustrated with Wrexham’s inability to see out these games with both Cambridge and Bristol Rovers stuck in the bottom six places of League One.

These are games Wrexham need to be winning, especially having taken the lead.

Parkinson won’t be happy but he offered praise for goalscorer Lee whilst speaking on Wrexham’s official YouTube channel.

Parkinson noted that Lee was ‘playing so well’ and looked ‘on top form’ as he slotted home a superb finish to open the scoring.

The Wrexham boss added that Lee ended up having to be substitute due to a tight hamstring and that was a real shame given his strong performance up to that point.

“Just his hamstring was tight,” said Parkinson on lee’s injury.

“It’s such a shame for him, it was a goal of high quality, a fantastic pass from Matty James and a really good finish from Elliot and he was playing so well at the time, he was really on top form.”

Phil Parkinson makes Paul Mullin prediction

Lee heading off with injury meant Wrexham called on striker Paul Mullin form the bench.

Wrexham fans weren’t too impressed with Mullin against Bristol Rovers as concerns grow over the 30-year-old’s poor form this season.

Mullin has started just five League One games this season and come off the bench in another 14, scoring just one goal.

Wrexham’s goal hero just doesn’t look himself this season but Parkinson was pleased with his showing from the bench.

Parkinson suggested that the moment in front of goal just didn’t arrive for Mullin but he is ‘absolutely sure’ that goals are around the corner for him.

“I thought Mulls worked hard today, he just didn’t get the moment but that will come for him – I’m absolutely sure,” he added.

Wrexham return to action on Boxing Day against Blackpool and Parkinson will hope that Mullin finds the net against Steve Bruce’s side.
