Wrexham earned a huge win over Stockport County on March 22nd, boosting their promotion chances massively and Rob McElhenney has reacted.

Wrexham fans weren’t happy at Paul Mullin missing out yet again and took to social media to make their feelings known.

But the Red Dragons’ grievances have now hopefully been allayed after what could end up being one of their biggest wins this season.

Heading into the weekend, the Welsh outfit only had to play two of the top-nine teams, while their closest rivals for second, Wycombe Wanderers, have a very tough run of fixtures coming up.

It was a cagey first 45 but the game was decided in the first 30 minutes, leaving Stockport County fans furious at James McClean.

The home side were awarded a penalty shortly after McClean’s chat with the linesman and Jay Rodriguez stepped up to score.

Rob McElhenney reaction to Wrexham 1-0 Stockport County

Wrexham beat Stockport 1-0, though Ollie Rathbone probably could have added a second late on.

It did not matter, however, and the Welsh side have now climbed back above Wycombe into the top two.

The season is by no means over just yet, but it does seem very likely that Parkinson’s side will end up going up automatically along with Birmingham.

Now, following the clash, co-owner Rob McElhenney has taken to X/Twitter to share his instant verdict on the result.

He wrote: “I guess there are worse records to break than the one for most 1-0 victories. But boy, is it terrible for the nervous system. 8 GAMES TO GO FOR HISTORY.”

How many games have Wrexham won 1-0 this season

Yet again, Wrexham have beaten a promotion rival by scoring just one goal and conceding zero.

As Rob suggests, it does not make for great viewing for fans, but it’s clear getting the job done.

In the league, Wrexham have already picked up a staggering 10 1-0 victories across 2024/25.
