Wrexham have won again in League One, this time against Blackpool in League One.
It’s two veteran strikers that Phil Parkinson has to thank. On a foggy day at the Stok Racecourse, it was Paul Mullin and Steven Fletcher who bagged the goals that secured the victory.
Mullin’s ludicrous volley impressed fans, then Fletcher’s last-gasp penalty ensured everyone left on Boxing Day very happy in North Wales.
But despite the two attackers stealing the headlines, it’s a defender who deserves immense credit for his performance against Steve Bruce’s side.

Eoghan O’Connell was simply ridiculous vs Blackpool
As he has done for most of the League One season, centre-back Eoghan O’Connell put in a dominant defensive display against the Tangerines.
This is summed up with quite a ludicrous stat. O’Connell won a whopping 23 duels over the 90-minute stint, losing just three. His other stats on the day also weren’t bad.
O’Connell stats vs Wrexham
- 90 minutes played
- 64/82 accurate passes
- 94 touches
- 0 times dispossessed
- 3/4 tackles won
- 23 duels won
- 3 duels lost

Mullin awarded MOTM by Wrexham fans
The 29-year-old’s efforts didn’t go unnoticed, with O’Connell awarded Man of the Match by FOTMOB, but it was Mullin who got the fan vote on Wrexham’s website.
Wrexham did have some other standout performers, including Oliver Rathbone and James McClean, but it was the centre-half who barely put a foot wrong, in contrast to O’Connell against Rovers last week.
Now, Wrexham welcome Wigan in three days time. The Christmas schedule doesn’t stop for O’Connell and the Red Dragons.
