Wrexham are preparing to take on Stockport County as Phil Parkinson looks for another victory in the League One promotion race.
Wrexham had enjoyed a real rarity this week – a free midweek.
2025 has been relentless for Wrexham with League One and EFL Trophy games packing out the schedule.
Sam Smith relished a free midweek with Wrexham able to get in a full week of training ahead of facing Stockport County.
Dave Challinor’s side visit the STōK Cae Ras this weekend as Stockport and Wrexham – foes through the respective National League, League Two and League One rises – lock horns yet again.
Wycombe Wanderers beat Rotherham United in midweek, reclaiming second place from Wrexham in the process.

Stockport County without ‘best finisher’ Benony Breki Andresson v Wrexham
Wrexham head into the weekend level on points with Wycombe, so every game is absolutely vital in the race for promotion.
County have promotion aspirations of their own; the League One play-offs may be calling, but a win this weekend would see them move just three points behind Wrexham.
We have witnessed some great games between Stockport and Wrexham over the years and this promises to be another with the end of the season in sight.
Stockport would love a win at the STōK Cae Ras but will have to do it without exciting new striker Benony Breki Andresson.
Challinor made a fascinating move by signing Icelandic youth international Andresson from KR in January, effectively replacing Louie Barry.
The former Bologna talent was a goal machine in Iceland and is already making an impact for Stockport.
Andresson has hit three goals in just 146 minutes of League One action for Stockport, sparking real excitement around Edgeley Park.
As quoted by the Chester Standard, Challinor recently called Andresson ‘the best finisher’ at the club just weeks after his arrival.
The 19-year-old is turning heads but won’t be involved against Wrexham this weekend in a blow to Stockport’s hopes.
Andresson has earned a call-up to the Iceland Under-21 side and will be in action against Hungary on Friday afternoon instead of preparing to face Wrexham.
That’s a blow for Stockport but a potential boost for Wrexham, who have not been affected by international call-ups in this window.
Stockport County have other attacking options
Just as Wrexham have great attacking options at Phil Parkinson’s disposal in Jay Rodriguez, Sam Smith, Steven Fletcher and Jack Marriott – as well as the out-of-favour Ollie Palmer and Paul Mullin – Stockport have options too.
Andresson’s absence will open up a chance for somebody else and Challinor will weigh up his options to partner Tanto Olaofe in attack.
Kyle Wootton came off the bench to replace Andresson at half-time against Bolton Wanderers last weekend and may be in pole position to start at Wrexham.
Target man Sam Cosgrove is in the mix too having completed a January loan move from Barnsley.
Former Wrexham target Nick Powell may not be fit enough to be involved though after a lengthy absence.
The Wrexham back line can’t take it easy with Andresson out and, after Olaofe scored a brilliant goal against Bolton last weekend – as seen above – he may be the man to watch this weekend.
