Wrexham played out their second pre-season friendly of the summer on July 15, taking on Sydney FC.

Instead of their usual trip to North America, Wrexham are in Australia for their 2025 pre-season tour.

The Red Dragons got their camp off to a flying start last week when they beat Melbourne Victory 3-0.

Ryan Hardie impressed Wrexham fans when he scored his first goal for the club after coming off the bench in the second half of that game.

Meanwhile, Ollie Palmer started after previously not playing a single minute of senior football for the Welsh outfit since January 28, 2025.

Wrexham fans on Ollie Palmer starting vs Sydney

Palmer was once again given the nod on Tuesday, leading the line alongside academy product Harry Ashfield.

Both Sam Smith and Ryan Hardie were left out of the squad, with Wrexham fans speculating as to why.

One fan wrote: “Injury to Sam Smith then?”

A second questioned the quality of the squad: “Without some major businesses, that squad is going to struggle to stay up.”

A third quoted the line-up and tweeted: “Sam Smith injured?”

“Is that our 2 best strikers injured?” asked a fourth Red Dragons fan.

Another Wrexham fan asked: “Where’s Sam Smith? Injured?”

Has Phil Parkinson commented on Sam Smith and Ryan Hardie

After impressing on his club debut, fans were probably keen to see Hardie back in action this weekend.

They were also likely equally concerned that Smith has now been left out of two matchday squads in a row.

Parkinson did not comment on Smith after he was absent from the Melbourne hammering last week.

Whether the manager provides an update on Smith on Tuesday remains to be seen, as the club generally doesn’t share many clear injury updates.

However, Parkinson did say Hardie had a problem with his head after going off against Melbourne.
