Ollie Palmer has become a bit of an enigma at Wrexham. But there might yet be a chance of salvation for the towering striker.
The 33-year-old Ollie Palmer has seen his Wrexham game time and goals tally steadily dwindle over the last few years.
The 2022/23 season in the National League saw him score 16 in 45 for the Dragons, though he managed just seven league goals in the League Two campaign, and then three in the last League One season.
Ahead of this summer, it was widely expected that Palmer would leave Wrexham, following in the footsteps of Paul Mullin who was also exiled last season and who has now joined Wigan Athletic on loan.
But Palmer started Wrexham’s pre-season friendly against Melbourne Victory on Friday, and he did well.

What’s been said about Ollie Palmer’s Wrexham future?
Palmer is among the Wrexham players out of contract in 2026, and given how he was exiled from the matchday squads for almost the entirety of the second half of last season, it was assumed that he wouldn’t be with the squad at this point of the summer.
But Wrexham have told Palmer he can leave the club this summer. It seems, then, that Phil Parkinson has left the striker to decide his own fate, and what decision he might come to remains to be seen.
Speaking ahead of the trip to Australia, Parkinson laid out a challenge for Palmer and everyone else, saying: “The challenge for everyone on this trip, regardless of age or experience, is to make an impact.”

What the Wrexham fans said about Ollie Palmer’s performance vs Melbourne Victory
Wrexham beat Melbourne Victory 3-0 courtesy of goals from Thomas O’Connor, Ryan Hardie and George Evans. Though it was Palmer’s positive first half display that had many talking on social media.
“He’s played well,” wrote one Wrexham fan of Palmer, who came off at half-time as Parkinson rolled out another XI for the second half.
Another posted: “Ollie Palmer rolling back the years there, he’s not ready to give that shirt up just yet!”
One Wrexham fan even speculated: “Ollie Palmer looking really good in this pre-season match. Still think Wrexham would have been up sooner with him starting instead of [Jay] Rodriguez.”
“Palmer and [Jack] Marriott are giving it everything,” read one comment, as another posted: “Palmer is like a new signing.”
Wrexham next play Sydney FC on the 15th.
