Wrexham faced QPR in their latest Championship clash looking to build momentum after the international break.

Phil Parkinson was forced into a couple of changes from the side that beat Millwall as James McClean and Arthur Okonkwo replaced Liberato Cacace and Danny Ward.

QPR dominated much of the first half and took the lead through an own goal from Conor Coady after a scramble in the Wrexham penalty area. Richard Kone doubled the lead soon after.

Ryan Hardie should have got his team back in the game just before half time but saw his effort creep past the far post. The Wrexham fans have noticed something worrying in the first half and it needs to be fixed sharply.

Wrexham fans slam team’s defending during QPR clash

Parkinson’s side kept a host of clean sheets on their way to promotion from League One last season, solidity at the back was a real bedrock of their success.

Two sloppy goals from a defensive point of view have angered Wrexham fans and many have taken to X to voice their opinions.

One Wrexham fan wrote: “Again slow to the ball and it has already become really noticeable how speed hurts our defence.”

Another supporter wrote: “Adjustments needed. Defence has been porous as Swiss Cheese in 1st half…. smh Let’s Regroup and make it a game!”

One Wrexham fan noted that this was not the first time the side had looked vulnerable at the back this season.

They wrote: “Are we trying to set the world record for most chances conceded in a season? Lucky they have only scored two, we are way too open.”

Wrexham’s defensive vulnerability a worrying trend for Phil Parkinson

It is not the first time that the Red Dragons have looked vulnerable defensively this season – especially at the Racecourse Ground.

Parkinson labelled his side ‘too soft’ during the defeat to West Brom and they also struggled in the draw with Sheffield Wednesday.

It is up to Parkinson to find a way of protecting a back three that is not exactly blessed with pace, whether that be more legs in midfield to protect them or changing the system completely.

There are options on the bench for Wrexham given their squad depth after the summer’s transfer activity but it is a problem that needs sorting quickly.
