Wrexham’s squad is changing all the time, and next summer we could see another big turnover of personnel.
This summer was the biggest in Wrexham’s history in terms of money spent, and one of the biggest ever seen in the Championship too.
In total, Wrexham spent nearly £40million on new players when including add-ons, which is the biggest sum ever spent by a team in the Championship that hasn’t just come down from the Premier League.
Wrexham signed 13 new players this summer but also let go of 21; either loaned them out, released or sold them.
If Wrexham’s rapid rise continues then we’ll only see more and more summer transfer windows like this.

Matty James makes clear admission on his Wrexham future
Wrexham signed three new players on deadline day alone. Ben Sheaf, Issa Kabore and Dom Hyam all arrived and Phil Parkinson now looks like he has a very strong squad, and one that could even challenge for an unthinkable fourth-straight promotion this season.
And if the Dragons are promoted then the players who leave next summer might be obvious: one such player could be Matty James. Now 34 years old and in the final year of his contract at the Racecourse, James is one who could be on the chopping block next summer, but he’s holding his own for the time being.

The new club captain and someone who’s so far started every league match for the Dragons this season, James tells Leader Live that he’s keen to play for the club for as long as possible: “I want to prove I can still play in the Championship. I am 34 years old and that is probably one of the biggest motivations I’ve got after finishing at Bristol City, the last time I was in the Championship.
“That is what drives me and just to help the lads as much as I possibly can, and earn another contract. I feel great, I have got a real spring in my step and I am enjoying my football and I have enjoyed the football club, and everything about it. I want to try and play here as long as possible.”

Phil Parkinson set for Wrexham decision with Matty James in limbo
Parkinson has done a stellar job at Wrexham. But it’s not been easy. He’s had a lot of difficult decision to make over the years, as we’ve seen with the likes of Paul Mullin and Ollie Palmer.
The two were great players for Wrexham but Parkinson had to be ruthless and let them go. James might well fall into the same boat next summer, even if he plays well and even if he wants to stay at the club.
Already this summer, James has expressed his desire to stay at Wrexham before doing so again ahead of the Championship clash against QPR this weekend.
All that the midfielder can do is keep his head down and perform as well as he has been performing this season. If Wrexham don’t end up achieving promotion this season then there seems to be chance that James is handed another year.
Wrexham’s game against QPR kicks off at 3pm on Saturday.
