Wrexham fans send clear message to Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney following Stevenage loss

Wrexham were handed a shock defeat at the hands of Stevenage on Tuesday evening, ending their unbeaten home run.

The Red Dragons last tasted defeat at the Racecourse Ground all the way back on March 16th, 2024, versus Tranmere Rovers.

And though Stevenage have been solid defensively on the road this season, they had scored just four away league goals in 2024/25.

In turn, a Wrexham victory, or at the very least a draw, seemed all but nailed on when the two teams kicked off.

However, Stevenage found themselves 2-0 up after 18 minutes thanks to a disasterclass from Arthur Okonkwo between the sticks.

Phil Parkinson brought two centre-forwards on at the break and the Red Dragons were able to pull a goal back in the 54th minute.

Stevenage found their third 16 minutes later, however, seeing Wrexham lose 3-2 and their unbeaten run brought to an end despite late pressure and a goal from Max Cleworth.

Wrexham fans send message to Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney after Stevenage

There are now six points separating Wrexham and second-place Wycombe, who won on Tuesday evening.

And with the club’s automatic promotion hopes slipping away, fans have taken to social media to send a clear message to Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney, urging them to make signings this month.

One fan wrote: “Too little too late absolutely correct @m_griffiths92 #askwxm our goalie isn’t ready yet ….cheque book out @VancityReynolds.”

A second added: “@VancityReynolds you need to buy good players, not average ones, or be the play-offs for Wrexham.”

Another sarcastically commented: “At least we’ve got our transfer business done early this time.”

“Wrexham paying dear for lack of January investment, didn’t need a number 10!” Another exclaimed.

A fourth stated: “Got what we deserved. Nothing. Six days left of this window to prove we want to go up, to be honest.”

While another Red Dragons fan wrote: “Sign some strikers. Fans can’t take it. You need more speed. Elliot works better in attacking midfield with Dobson and Rathbone.”

Who are Wrexham trying to sign in January

Ryan Longman made his Wrexham debut against Stevenage following his arrival at the club this past Friday.

The versatile player was the Welsh outfit’s first and only signing of the January transfer window so far.

A new striker was expected to arrive but a Wrexham move for Michael Smith is now unlikely after the latest reports.

In turn, it looks as though they are once again going to miss out on their main centre-forward target, as they did in the summer, and may be forced to settle for a backup option.

But with less than a week of the window to go, who that player will be is anyone’s guess at this stage.
